SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR C

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

Jesus came down with the Twelve and stopped at a piece of level ground where there was a large gathering of his disciples with a great crowd of people from all parts of Judaea and from Jerusalem and from the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon who had come to hear him and to be cured of their diseases.

Then fixing his eyes on his disciples he said:

‘How happy are you who are poor: yours is the kingdom of God.

Happy you who are hungry now: you shall be satisfied.

Happy you who weep now: you shall laugh.

‘Happy are you when people hate you, drive you out, abuse you, denounce your name as criminal, on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice when that day comes and dance for joy, for then your reward will be great in heaven. This was the way their ancestors treated the prophets.

‘But alas for you who are rich: you are having your consolation now.

Alas for you who have your fill now: you shall go hungry.

Alas for you who laugh now: you shall mourn and weep.

‘Alas for you when the world speaks well of you!

This was the way their ancestors treated the false prophets.’

Our Lady of Lourdes- 11th February

Mary, Jesus’ mother, is the greatest saint. She has appeared to many people over the centuries. Each place she has appeared she has been given a different title. Our Lady of Lourdes was the title she was given after she visited Bernadette Soubirous, a fourteen-year-old girl in 1858.

One day Bernadette was out with her sister and a friend to gather wood for the fire. Bernadette, who suffered from asthma and was often sick, did not cross over the stream to gather wood on the other side with her sister and friend. While they were gone, Bernadette heard a noise over near a cave-like area, and she went to investigate. There, Bernadette saw a lovely lady dressed in white who had a blue sash around her waist and a rose on each foot. She was beautiful!

Bernadette prayed the rosary with this lady before she disappeared. The lady asked her to come back again. The lady appeared to Bernadette a total of eighteen times. Bernadette was teased and laughed at; many believed that she was either imagining the appearances of Our Lady or making it up.

When a spring miraculously appeared after one of the visions, many who doubted her began to believe. Those who bathed in the spring were often cured of serious sickness or disability. Eventually, the lady identified herself: “I am the Immaculate Conception,” she told Bernadette. It was then that people realized for sure that it was Mary, the mother of God, appearing to Bernadette.

With the help of Mary our Mother may we have the faith of Bernadette to know, love and serve God

Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes

Today we celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes with class liturgies.

We share with you the Prayers of Intercession which were part of our liturgy.

As a new year begins, let us now pray through the intercession of Mary to our heavenly Father.

We pray for the Leaders of our Church and of our school community.  May they learn from Mary’s humble, yet strong example of discipleship and remain close to Jesus the source of all life.

Lord hear us.

All:   Lord, hear our prayer

We pray for the new members of our school community; our new students and their families.  May they find in us a loving and open spirit.

Lord hear us.

All: Lord, hear our prayer

We pray for all the staff who work here in our school.  May they be blessed in all that they do.

Lord hear us.

All: Lord, hear our prayer

We pray for the children who attend our school.  May they all find peace and happiness in all they experience here.

Lord hear us

All: Lord, hear our prayer

Let us pray our school prayer:

Lord our God,

We thank you for our school, Our Lady of Lourdes.

We pray:

This is our school, let peace dwell here

Let the rooms be filled with contentment

Let love abide here- Love of God

Love of one another and love of life itself

Let us remember that as many hands build a house

Many hearts make our school.

Rapid Antigen Test

A two week supply of Rapid Antigen Test Kits were sent home with each student this week. Please contact the office if you have not received this new supply.

RAT protocols for staff and students following a positive COVID-19 case

It is recommended that students who return to school after recovering from COVID-19 do not participate in rapid antigen test surveillance for 28 days (four weeks after recovery) following release from self-isolation. This is due to NSW Health advice that people who have recovered from COVID-19 have a low risk of contracting it again in the following 28 days. After 28 days (from week five after recovery) students may resume participation in RAT surveillance.

Parking

Thank you to all parents for your support during morning drop off and pick up. It continues to work fairly smoothly but relies on the cooperation of all parents. Please drive carefully and be aware for the safety of all our children.

We ask that parents please remember:

  • Be patient and considerate of other drivers.
  • For morning drop off move right down to the end of the green fence and behind the car in front so that you don't cause a build up of traffic behind you. The whole area in front off the church is a drop of zone in the morning. Some parents are stopping at the front of the school gates instead of moving down behind the car in front of them. This is causing frustration with other parents waiting to drop their child at school.
  • Leave promptly after letting your children out of the car.You can not be parked for any longer than two minutes and must remain within three metres of your car in the drop off ozone.
  • Do not park across the driveways of residents, morning or afternoon
  • Do not double park or perform 3 point turn in the street
  • Do not verbally abuse other drivers. It is important that we set a good example for our children.

Please see attached information from The Hills Shire Council SCHOOL ZONE PARKING RULES AND PENALTIES.

At times the police and parking rangers visit schools and they will book drivers breaking the laws.
