Term 1 Week 5, 2019

From the Principal

Congratulations to our 2019 student leaders received their badges at the Leaders Induction Assembly this week. We recognised the school captains, vice captains, sport captains and vice captains, SRC representatives and library monitors. Students in these roles have been elected in recognition of their leadership and citizenship skills and will be wonderful role models for other students throughout the year.

This week we have formed an additional class due to an increase in student numbers. The additional class is a Kindergarten class, KD. Ms Debrincat will take the Kindergarten class which will be based in the classroom next to early intervention. The formation of a third Kindergarten class will provide much smaller classes and provide more effective learning environments for Kindergarten.

We hope you enjoy our new newsletter format. Paper copies are available in the office if you would like a printed version of a particular item.

Capital Works Building Project Update

Building Works Have Begun!

Our school site has been secured with fencing and the diggers are clearing the way for the foundations of our new buildings to be laid.

We appreciate you assistance with the change in drop off and pick up routines. Students are lining up underneath the COLA and are moving off to class quickly. Thank you to parents who are allowing a little extra time to leave after the children. It is important to get students to class first to begin their learning for the day.

Mrs Mulligan has been our Assistant Principal since she started at Pendle Hill in 2009. She leads our Learning and Support Team and collaborates with students, parents, teachers and external services to meet the needs of our students.

2019 Swimming Carnival

On Monday 11th of February we held the annual School Swimming Carnival. Students from Year 3-6 walked to Wentworth Swimming Centre to participate in a day of novelty races and swimming events. Students demonstrated our school expectations well on the day, being helpful, safe and respectful participants. Children supported each other during events with cheers being led by house captains and senior students. Thank you to Mrs Russell who organised the event and Mrs Mufale who assisted. Thank you to all of the staff at Pendle Hill PS for assisting in making the event run so smoothly. Parents were great supporters of students on the day and watched events with enthusiasm, with some parents assisting with time keeping. These events could not run so smoothly without the combined efforts of students, school staff and parents, so again we thank you.

A word from our sport Captains…

“Everyone kept the place tidy and no one left any rubbish so that it was neat and clean. Teams earned extra house points for this. Everyone in the swimming carnival showed good sportsmanship and also wore their school uniform to represent our school proudly. Everyone that competed was confident and novelty races were enjoyed by all. The novelty races included kick board races, noodle races, ball races and running water races.”

Wentworth Sport Captains:- Ethan Yashvi Grace Azza

“Everyone competed and had a fun swimming experience. Everyone tried their hardest to compete and we had so much fun cheering on our teammates. Children were swimming in 50 metre races in freestyle, backstroke, breastroke and butterfly. Some even swam in the 100 m freestyle race. They were courageous and brave and even though they were tired they still gave it a go for themselves and their team. Children in the novelty races had so much fun and everyone is looking forward to having fun next year.”

Blaxland Sport Captains:- Tevita Yashika

“Everybody at the swimming carnival tried their best in all of the races. During the swimming carnival, everybody had so much fun competing and saying their cheers with other houses. Novelty races and swimming races were enjoyed by everyone and we were all cheering and encouraging our team mates. Everybody tried their best to compete in 50 and 100 metre races to represent their houses and make them proud.”

Penny Possum Reward Ticket Competition

Families are invited to participate in designing the school’s 2019 reward tickets. Students receive reward tickets when teachers observe them following the school wide expectations of being a helpful, safe, respectful learner.  Each classroom has their own ‘Penny Possum Box” or ‘Poss Box’ situated inside their rooms and students place all their tickets in this box.  When individual classes fill their “Poss Boxes’, they will receive a reward, voted on by the students (eg. some examples may be a class disco, technology party, silly sock day). The ‘Poss Box’ is an exciting change to the way Penny Possum tickets are used and we look forward to enthusiastic and engaged students being help, safe and respectful learners!

We are inviting all families to design a picture that will be put on the new Penny Possum tickets. Please draw a picture in the box and return to the office by Friday 15th March 2019. We look forward to seeing your entries. Winning entries will be announced in a following newsletter.

Meeting your Child's Teacher

Parent and Teacher interviews will be held at the end of Term 1. If you would like to meet with your child's class teacher before this time, please feel free to call the office to organise a meeting time.

When teachers and students are moving to and from their classroom, teachers have a duty of care to all students.  Their focus is on the safety and well-being of the students in their care. All meetings should be booked through the school office, so that you can have a meaningful discussion, without distraction.
