Be Safe - Be Responsible - Be Respectful - Be Your Best

Wednesday 23 June, 2021 - Term 2 - Week 10 - Issue 20

Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

NAIDOC Week - Heal Country

A sincere thank you to Aunty Gai, Mr Hill and Bree from Vincentia High School, as well as Dhaawarri VHS student dancers, and Jackson and Harley from Clontarf for joining us for our NAIDOC assembly today. Their Welcome to Country and traditional Aboriginal dances lead beautifully into culturally rich learning activities, facilitated by the high school and Clontarf. I was so proud of our Aboriginal students who, after many rehearsals, performed amazingly alongside their high school peers.

Today’s assembly followed yesterday’s Doing Things Together day where our Year 6 students displayed outstanding leadership when facilitating a range of activities for the rest of the school.

Playground Installation

You may have noticed our old playground equipment was removed last weekend. Our new equipment is scheduled to be installed over the holidays. We can’t wait!

School Grounds Closed These School Holidays

In recent holidays, our school grounds have been open for our community to enjoy. However, due to the playground installation, we are not participating in the Share our Space initiative. This means that the school grounds should not be accessed by the community. If you see any suspicious activity, please contact School Security on 1300 880 021.

End of Term Reward

Tomorrow, we will be celebrating the end of term with a free sausage sizzle for all of our students who haven’t received 3 or more behaviour referrals this term. Well done on maintaining a high level of behaviour!

Public Speaking Grand Final

Tomorrow we will be hosting our Public Speaking grand final. Parents are most welcome to join us in the 5/6 classrooms at 12:15. Congratulations to our amazing speakers!

Happy Holidays

We congratulate each and every one of our students for the progress they have made throughout Semester 1 and wish them a safe and happy holiday. Students return to school on Tuesday 13 July.

Stay safe,

Rod White

Principal

2021 MULTICULTURAL PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION

Congratulations to Charlotte, Phoenix, Arabella and Connor who represented Tomerong Public School at the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition at Ulladulla Public School yesterday.

These students have been working very hard this term to create and prepare empowering speeches on topics such as racism, healing, the Olympics and sharing.

You all did an excellent job and we are all very proud of your efforts!

CRAZY HAIR and SILLY SOCK DAY

SRC - Crazy Hair and Silly Sock Day - This Friday 25 June

Just a reminder that this Friday, 25 June is Crazy Hair and Silly Sock Day.

Please come along to school this Friday with your crazy hair and silly socks. You can wear mufti clothes too!

Instead of bringing in a gold coin donation, the SRC would like you to bring in a pair of new socks (one pair of socks per family is more than enough) to donate to a local charity Socks and Jocks, which supports the Homeless Hub.  You can find out more about them through their Facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/socksnjocksaustralia/.

We look forward to a fun day and thank you to the SRC for all their hard work and fun fundraising over the last semester!

SPORTS SHORTS

Congratulations Spotted Gum!

At our last school assembly, Spotted Gum was announced the overall point score winners of our school Cross Country. Here is a photo of our very proud Spotted Gum Captains, Matilda and Charlotte, accepting the trophy on behalf of their team.

K-6 Athletics Carnival

Our school Athletics Carnival is set for Thursday 22 July, 2021 (Term 3, Week 2) with a back-up date set for Tuesday 27 July, 2021 (Term 3, Week 3). The venue for this carnival will be at Ron Brown Athletics Field, which is located next to Shoalhaven High School. This is also the venue for Shoalhaven Little Athletics Club.

Students in Years 5 and 6 have been busy this term practising and competing in the various field events at school.

Students will complete in discus, shotput and high jump events at school. All running, novelty and long jump events will occur at the oval on the day of the school’s carnival.

A permission note for this carnival will be sent home on Tuesday 13 July, the first day back of next term for students.

Students are strongly encouraged to travel by bus due to limited parking at the venue.

The information provided to me by Shoalhaven High School states, “On the day of the carnival, parents and students will need to enter the grounds on the western side of the school. Students and parents need to access via the western gate on Park Road.  Persons attending the carnival should proceed the same way and not through the school grounds. Parents are not permitted to park on the school grounds. The staff car parks are for staff at Shoalhaven High School only.”

We will require parent help on the day to help run the carnival and staff a canteen. If you can assist on the day with carnival events, please phone the school on 4443 4376 and let the office staff or Mr Munn know. This will be the first time that our school has hired Ron Brown Athletics Field. I encourage the students to keep active over the holidays in preparation for a great carnival.

Finally, thanks to Mrs Kelly for all her hard work in organising the soccer knock-out this term. Our students loved the opportunity to travel and compete against different schools. I would also like to thank our amazing parents for helping with transport and supporting the children.

Have a happy, safe holiday and we will see you next term!

Mr Munn

DEFENCE SCHOOL MENTOR

Parents and Carers,

I wish all of our families a safe and happy holiday and cannot wait to hear about the student’s adventures when they return for Term 3.

A message from DCO:

We are changing our name.

On 1 July Defence Community Organisation (DCO) will change their name to Defence Member and Family Support (DMFS).

The new name reflects their vision, what they do and who they do it for. While their name is changing, there will be no changes to the services or programs offered to ADF members and their families.

Find out more about the name change at www.defence.gov.au/dco.
