Melrose Park Public School Newsletter

Term 3 Week 10

Term 3 - What a term!

Welcome to the final newsletter of term 3.

Who would have thought that we would have spent a term learning and working from home! I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and to sincerely thank all of our Melrose Park PS community members for holding steady and staying the course.

We know our job is to stay home as much as possible, stay safe, happy and well and get vaccinated when we can. It is a tricky time for everyone. Remaining positive and focusing on the things that we can control is vital at this time. Letting go of the things that we can't control, not overthinking them, following regular routines and having things to look forward to with small achievable steps every day helps us to feel a sense of accomplishment.

As we move into the last week of school for the term, I would like to say a special thank you to our entire staff at Melrose Park. Your outstanding ability to pivot on demand and work tirelessly to ensure that no-one is left behind is greatly appreciated. The quality of online learning provided to students and families and the strong wellbeing support has been outstanding. To our teachers and staff... thank you, well done.

We look forward to warmer days, summer uniforms and lots of healthy fresh fruits and salads as the length of the day increases. Holidays are time for all of us - staff, students and community - to rest, recharge our batteries and be ready for the final term of 2021.

Term 3 finishes  -  Friday 17 September

Term 4 starts - Tuesday 5 October - Learning from Home will continue

Students will return to face-to-face learning with NSW Health-approved COVID-safe settings on school sites in the following order:

  • from 25 October – Kindergarten and Year 1
  • from 1 November – Years 2 and 6
  • from 8 November – Years 3, 4 and 5

Home Delivery

Mail on the way

Over the coming week, teachers will be sending out some mail to families and students. Please ensure the school has your current mailing address as per the Skoolbag app message sent out last week.

There are three mailouts for different purposes:

1.    All students will receive a message from their class teacher.

2.    Students in Years K, 1 and 2 will receive new learning material for Term 4. Please do not work ahead as most of this work has accompanying videos. Instead students can finish off any work from Term 3.

3.  Students in Years 3 and 5 will receive their NAPLAN results. Parents who would like further explanation around the NAPLAN results can contact teachers when school returns in Term 4.

Pulse Alive 2021

The Pulse Alive 2021 concert has been postponed until a later date in 2022.  We have decided to withdraw at this time and will refund all money to those families who have already paid. This refund will be organised in Term 4.

Thank you for your support and understanding,

Miss Mee & Miss Maynard

A message from a student leader

What do the Australian Olympic and Paralympic teams and MPPS have in common? Perseverance, focus and success. It was inspiring watching the athletes working with their teams, trainers and other competitors to reach their finish lines and it has been incredible to see our school do the same.

This term took an unexpected turn when we found out that we were going to be learning from home. At first we thought that we were only going to be staying at home for a few weeks, but it soon turned into the whole term. It has been disappointing to miss out on learning together, but I believe that we have only become more resilient and independent in the process.

With one week of term three left, we must draw inspiration from our Olympic and Paralympic heroes to cross our finish line on Friday.

On behalf of the MPPS students, I would like to thank teachers and parents for providing us with the support that we needed to make it through term three. I really look forward to seeing everyone in term four.

Premier's Reading Challenge

The PRC has now finished for 2021. Approximately 67% of our students completed the challenge, which is a tremendous effort considering the challenges of lockdown. Congratulations to everyone who successfully completed the PRC! Certificates will be given to students at the end of the year.

Well done to everyone who has been participating in Book Week activities. Whilst we were unable to celebrate formally, many students have been sharing photos of themselves dressed up as their favourite book character, reading in unique spaces and baking book themed cakes. I hope you have been enjoying some of the more creative activities as part of your library lessons.

With the weather warming up and school holidays in sight, I trust you all enjoy a space outdoors and immerse yourself in some wonderful adventure or mystery.
