The students at St Monica's are currently being assessed in Mathematics and Reading using two online tools; Pat-M and Pat-R.
The Progressive Achievement Tests in Mathematics (or Pat-M) provides information about the level of achievement of students from Year 1 to Year 10. The tests assess students' skill and understanding in a multiple-choice format in six strands of mathematics. Each test assesses the content of one year level of the Australian mathematics curriculum.
It is linked to syllabus expectations, covering strands of Number, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, Statistics and Probability.
The Progressive Achievement Test in Reading (or Pat-R) is especially designed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), for Australian schools.
The purpose of PAT-R is to monitor student progress in reading comprehension and to provide teachers with diagnostic information for setting realistic learning goals and planning effective programs.
Both assessments have a proven research base that allows comparison of student, class and year level data against an Australian normed sample.
They provide schools with a summative assessment towards the end of each year to complement the formative assessment program that the school has used progressively throughout the year.
They provide immediate feedback in the form of interactive reports for teachers to analyse and plan the next steps in student learning.
