Dear Parents & Community Members,

Following the call for interest from the community for election to the School Board, there were four nominations for the two positions available for a three-year term.  This will necessitate the School Board conducting an election for this vacant position – it is very important that you vote.

Next week, parents and carers will receive an email with a distinct code.  This code will be the identifier to be used to enable a vote to be registered via the online election “survey”.  If you do not have a valid email address registered with the school, please contact the school to enable a paper form (voting slip) to be supplied.  If you do not receive this email, please check your ’junk’ folder before contacting the school.

The election will close at 4.00pm on Thursday, March 11.  I sincerely thank all nominees for their interest in being part of the School Board.

House Swimming Carnival

What a success!

Last Wednesday, 24th February, our Year 4, 5 and 6's participated in their House Swimming Carnival at HBF Arena.  The new venue and format were well received by the community, staff and students and the fact we could record times was exciting for all to see them up on the score board.  A big thanks to all the parent volunteers who help make the day happen.

Is your child feeling unwell?

Please do not send your child to school if they are at all unwell.

Any child who demonstrates or complains of being unwell will be removed from the class, isolated and parents/carers contacted.

Our school is well stocked with hand sanitiser. This has been provided to all work areas (including classrooms) and children are expected to “sanitise out / sanitise in” at all times. Cleaning of hands following toilet use is also instructed.

Persistence

In our lives, there are obstacles standing in the way of each of us achieving our goals and dreams.  How you face these challenges will define the type of person you become.

Some people give up when things get tough because they believe the challenge is just too hard, or even impossible.  Other people persevere and work even harder in the face of difficulties.

People with persistence accomplish amazing things that people who are smarter or more talented, but lack determination can never achieve.  So next time you feel like quitting, try exercising persistence instead.  You may surprise yourself with how strong you really are.

Chess Club - Expressions of Interest

Dear Parents and carers,

There was a delay in the commencement of Chess Club for 2021.  It is looking to start up again soon if there is sufficient interest.  Mr Wolfgang Leonhardt, an eight-times WA state champion and who has been the instructor for more than 10 years, requires a minimum of 12 students to run the class and tournaments.  The syllabus will cover basic tactics and strategies, theories on openings, middle and end games, as well as tricks and pitfalls.

Here’s some interesting information about chess:  Chess teaches the value of hard work. Chess dramatically improves a child’s ability to think rationally and increases cognitive skills. Chess helps to mould character as it teaches equanimity in the face of good and ill fortunes. A thousand years ago chess was already the world’s most popular game, and still is today.

If the number of students reach the minimum of 12, classes may restart Fridays commencing at 3.05 pm and finishing at 4.10 pm.  The fee until the end of the term is $40 per student and is payable to Mr. Leonhardt.

To register your child, please email Angela Bavington before Thursday, 11th March, angela.bavington@education.wa.edu.au.
