This week we were notified that three competitors from Scotts Head made it through to the finals of the National Australia Indonesian Language Awards. This is very exciting news and great recognition of the hard work put in by students who worked on their speeches even throughout lockdown. In total, we had sixteen students participate in the competition, writing and recording an Indonesian speech of 1-3 minutes. Congratulations to all students who entered the competition – well done for taking on the challenge! These students will all receive an official certificate and feedback from NAILA in the coming weeks. They will also enjoy a VIP screening of all the speeches with popcorn in the LLLC at lunchtime!
Special recognition goes to Frieda Parkhouse in Year 4, who exceeded expectations with the most outstanding speech in the school! Unfortunately Frieda was also up against Year 5 and 6 students, and did not make it through to the finals this time. Our two finalists, both in Year 2, were Emily Sant and Jak Moc, who will be invited to a special online Awards Ceremony on Friday 3rd December. Bagus Emily and Jak! Congratulations and good luck in the finals!
The third finalist from Scotts Head was Bu Emi, who entered the all-ages People’s Choice category with an Indonesian version of the Australian song ‘My Island Home’. Bu Emi was hesitant at first to compete, but was inspired by the positive attitude and hard work of the students so decided, “If they can do it, so can I!” There are five finalists in this category and the winner is decided by voting online. You can help by voting on the NAILA website here! (If you want to skip Bu Emi’s introduction and just listen to the song, fast forward to 3:30). Voting is closes on Friday, 26 November 2021.
Once again, another outstanding result by Scotts Head in the field of Indonesian studies.
