PRINCIPAL'S NEWS

Lockdown Preparation

I’m sure many of you have seen in the newspaper, the need for schools to be ready for a lockdown.  There is no suggested timeframe for this.  Schools are just being asked to have guidelines and planning in place so that should there be a lockdown, we can action at home learning as soon as possible, to limit the disruption to your child’s education.

Staff have been informed of this need and we are in the process of ratifying guidelines and planning, should this occur.  The majority of parents are now on Seesaw and this would be our main educational tool for lessons, along with various modes of communication for parents.  If you have not joined Seesaw, now would be a great time to do so.

Further detailed information will be provided when and if we go into lockdown and students are asked to remain at home.

Year 6 Camp

Our year 6 students are getting very excited as camp is only a week away.  We are hoping the weather will be kinder to us, however, the students will still have a fantastic time and I wish them all the best.  You will love the Night Walk!!

If you have not already paid for camp, please do so ASAP.

The Year 1’s and Year 4’s have done a great job in maintaining their attendance. I know this weather makes it difficult getting out of bed, however, if you want your child to stay up to date with their learning, they need to be here every day.

We really need to keep those percentages up over 90. Please only allow your child to stay at home if they are sick. If you are having trouble getting your child to school, please let me know so we can work together to help your child reach their full potential.

Parents, remember to send us notification as to why your child is absent so it can be recorded accurately on our system.

Dear Families

The Education Department has advised schools to be prepared for the possibility of a lockdown in the future.

As part of our preparation, this Friday 30th July, each student from Year 1 to 6 will be bringing home a copy of their 'Seesaw' and 'Mathletics' codes.

These codes will be in a zip lock bag. Please keep these codes in a safe place so that they are accessible if a lockdown eventuates, requiring students to be learning at home instead of school.

Thankyou

Mr Ayres

Deputy Principal

STUDENT COUNCIL

Fundraising Quiz Night

A BIG THANK YOU to all parents and teachers for supporting our students on their first ever Fundraising Event for 2021!  The Student Councillors were able to raise a staggering $2782.00 for their Community Project #BetterLives.  This would not have been possible without the support and generosity of our local community and parent support.  Our Student Councillors are also holding a Launch Assembly on Monday 2nd of August to share their journey and what they have planned next. Please do come and join us.

HEALTH TIPS

Building Resilience

Resilience is the ability to cope with difficult situations and ‘bounce back’ when things go wrong.  Young people need to develop resilience in order to navigate life’s ups and down.  As a parent, you can help your child to become resilient by giving him or her opportunities to learn and practise new skills, for example:

·         Allow your child to solve some of their own problems. Learning to deal with issues builds skill and confidence.  Don’t jump in to fix things, unless the situation has got out of hand.

·         Arrange a fun, child-friendly activity each week like a trip to the park, play date with a friend or watching a favourite movie.  Regular ‘ups’ provide a bank of positive emotions to buffer against life’s ‘downs’ that may involve disappointment or conflict.

·         Help your kids to think positively. If your child is frustrated by a difficult maths problem, say, "I know that question was hard today, but yesterday I saw you solve a hard problem.  You kept trying until you worked it out.”

·         If you have a disagreement with your child, the most important thing to do is to reconnect and repair the relationship. Let your child cool down then offer a hug or words of support.  This has benefits for your child’s mental health as well as their ability to deal with relationship problems throughout their life.

For more information about raising a resilient child, go to www.kidsmatter.edu.au or http://raisingchildren.net.au or contact your local Community Health Nurse.
