Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members
This week our school is celebrating NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC Week is a hugely significant marker in the Australian calendar and an especially important one for Indigenous communities around the country. It's a week to celebrate Indigenous culture and heritage, commemorate 65,000 years of history, unify communities, and educate and share stories with all of the nation.
During this week our children will be involved in a range of activities that include:
• NAIDOC Assemblies on Tuesday and Wednesday.
• Sand art activities.
• Lunchtime opportunities for face-painting and bracelet making.
Our sincere thanks go to Ms Mippy who did a wonderful job in organising the week for us.
WRITE A BOOK IN A DAY
Yesterday we had around 60 Year 5&6 children participating in Write a Book in a Day. This is a fun, creative and collaborative competition for students in years 5 to 12 and adult writing groups. Teams of up to ten have just twelve hours to write and illustrate a book from start to finish. Digital editions of the completed stories are made available on the Online Library and shared with hospitals across Australia.
We thank Mrs Weir for organising this school activity and Mr Wickham for his great support in what was a very long but successful day!!
WAGSMS SCHOOL CHOIR PERFORMANCE
Our Senior Choir is performing in the Western Australian Government Schools Music Society Schools Make Music Concert Night at Crown Theatre on Monday, 9th August. Ms Cheong is doing a great job working with this group of children and I’m sure this will be a terrific experience for everyone. Our thanks also go to the families of the choir members for their on-going support.
PARKING NEAR OUR SCHOOL
It is important to keep in mind that schools are busy areas, where there are often lots of children, many of whom do not always understand the danger of roads and vehicles. Make sure to take extra care when parking on school grounds and on the roads and streets around the school and follow the signed parking rules at all times. Please note that the City of Kwinana will issue infringement notices for those who fail to follow these directions.
SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAY
A reminder to all families that our next School Development Day is on Monday, 23rd August (Week 6) children do not attend school.
Have a wonderful fortnight.
