Dawn Service

Our School Captains braved the elements late tonight atop of Mt Macedon. Mason Wright and Chloe Goodwin both stood in for and were the voice of local Anzac Tim Collins in a recreation of the Anzac Day Dawn Service.

The Dawn Service Committee have put in an extraordinary amount of work and are filming the ceremony in advance of Anzac Day this year as a result of Covid restrictions. Our Captains were honoured to uphold the tradition of being able to play their part in the service despite having to be on standby for hours in the cold and rain.

Be sure to look out for the link to watch the service on Anzac Day.

Pre-Orientation Day

Pre-Orientation Day was on Wednesday 25th of March.  Over 400 students from Primary Schools in Woodend, Kyneton, Romsey, Elphinstone, Malmsbury, Taradale (and more!) came for a day of activities and learning, and to get to know how to find their way around the BIG HIGH SCHOOL.  Some fabulous KHS students volunteered to help with lessons and activities such as cooking, drama, humanities, sport, maths, computer coding & English, while the Senior Students led ballgames on the courts and over at the sports stadium.

See below for some feedback on their day from the juniors.

Thanks to Ms Nguyen for the image.

Year 7 and Ancient Egyptian Culture

Students from 7A & 7L examined death and funeral customs in ancient Egypt and following that were invited to mummify one member of their group in the manner of the ancient Egyptians.

Mr Cornell

We've discovered there's not much dignity being mummified...

They plop your internal organs in jars, pull your brain out through your nose, then stand you there with a toilet roll on your head.

The mummification process in detail:

Deb practice has begun at Kyneton High School. We have large group participating in the Deb this year. Due to Covid restrictions last year the current year 12s could not have a Deb so they have now joined our current year 11s in this year's Deb. 34 couples / 68 students had a lot of fun at their first practice last night. There were many left feet however we are confident that on the night we will all be amazing. We are all looking forward to sharing our learning with our friends and family.

Interschool Equestrian News

Sarah Sell in Year 12 won the Elementary Class and placed in her other classes at the Geelong Grammar Interschool Dressage day in late February. Hannah Gajic, in year 11 also competed at the same event and scored well in several large classes.

Well done to the girls, their supportive parents and their trusty steeds!

Cheers

Year 11 Archaeological Dig

Our enthusiastic Yr 11 Classical Studies students embarked upon their annual archaeological dig recently. The students were well prepared for the dig identifying and surveying their dig site before laying out a grid prior to careful excavation of the layers of soil to reveal what lie beneath. However their  careful scientific approach gave way for the frenzied treasure hunter within once each of these budding young archaeologists got a glimmer of the potential treasures that could be uncovered!

Year 10 Achievers

Here are just some of our Yr 10 students with their positive behaviour and academic achievement awards from the month of February. The year level captains as part of their work with the student leadership team are acknowledging the successes of their peers by handing out certificates of the achievements that teachers log each month that emphasise our schools values of respect and excellence. Well done students!

Minecraft Castles

In Humanities class 8A have been learning about Medieval history by building castles using Minecraft Education. We set up a class world, with all students able to join an infinite world with only one operator.

Students could use their imagination and historical knowledge to build castles, villages and farms, knights, and weapons. It was enjoyable for all!

Macedon Ranges Youth Ambassador Program

About the program

The Macedon Ranges’ Youth Ambassador Program (MR YAP) is an annual program for young leaders connected to the Macedon Ranges, aged between 15 and 25. The Youth Ambassadors Program was established in 2011 and has been a critical driver and enabler of youth leadership in the region, with almost 100 students from years 11 and 12 completing the program. Youth Ambassadors gives a voice to young people in the Shire, empowering our next generation of leaders to tackle community issues that matter to them, and connecting the group to Council to make a genuine and sustainable difference in the Macedon Ranges.

The program involves 8-10 participants who want to make a genuine difference in the community; influencing decisions, leading projects, attending leadership activities, hosting events, driving the change they want to see.

Sex Smart Youth Survey

The Sex Smart Youth working group is made up of paid youth participants, and health and community organisations who work with young across the Macedon Ranges. The working group has co-designed the Sex Smart Youth survey with young people, which will be open from 1-31 March. We are aiming to find out what young people know, don’t know, wish they knew earlier and want to know more about in relation to sexual and reproductive health.

This survey is open to all 12-25 year-olds connected to the Macedon Ranges.  We hope that with strong engagement with the survey, we will have local data to support youth driven sexual and reproductive health projects, applications for funding in this space, and to inform actions of the Sex Smart Youth working group for 2021 and beyond.

Australian National Census 2021 - Field Officers & Managers Wanted

Adecco Recruitment has partnered with the Australian Bureau of Statistics to recruit 38,000 temporary employees in areas across the country. These employees will play an important role in helping people to lodge their Census forms for the Australian National Census 2021.

The Census provides valuable insights into the make-up of Australian society and is often the only source of data on small population groups and small geographic areas, which is why it is vital that we achieve the highest level of engagement and participation possible within your area.

See the fliers below for roles available, and to view our current vacancies, please visit: https://censusjobs.adecco.com.au/applications
