Holy Trinity Primary Granville

Term 3 Week 6 - 20th August 2021

From the Leadership Team

Philip Mahony | Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

The lockdown and remote learning will continue for most of this term. The teachers are planning different activities to keep your children motivated with their learning and including wellness days to support you and the students. If your child is still having issues with technology at home, you can arrange to pick up a school computer by calling the office.

MANNERS MAKETH HAPPINESS

A polite reminder to begin the term.

Two young people applied for an after-school job. Both were well qualified with good references. One got the job. Why?

The employer said one candidate arrived late and mumbled when greeted. They looked at the floor. They replied to questions with  words like "Y'know", "S'pose so". When they were offered a drink of water they said no, without saying thank you.

When the successful student came in they said good morning, looked him in the eye and smiled. They waited to be asked to sit down. They answered questions clearly and thoughtfully. They washed up their own glass after a drink of water.

The employer knew that how they treated him have an accurate idea about how they would treat the customers. The candidate who was pleasant, helpful and polite got the job.

This world can be a rude and unpleasant place. In such a world, good manners are a superweapon. Good manners open doors. Good manners win friends. Good manners help us get where  we want to go. Good manners made everyone feel better. Good manners make life happier.

Rude people, on the other hand, are no often told they have bad manners. Instead, people just avoid them, they don't  get chosen. Nobody wants to spend time with them. Most of us have had the experience of someone who pushes in, answers rudely, leaves a mess for someone else to clean up.

The secret to to good manners is that by practising them, we become  nicer people because good manners tell the world we don't put ourselves first all the time.  We stand back to let someone else go first. We give help before we are asked. We treat everyone with kindness and respect. Polite people say please and thank you. They don't keep others waiting. They tidy up after themselves. They dress appropriately for the situation.

This school and community are better places for us all if we are polite to one another. Make good manners your habit this year - and the rest of your life.

Warm regards,

Phil Mahony

Jason Fisher | Assistant Principal

Online Learning Reminders

Thank you to all the parents and carers who are supporting the children with online learning. We understand that it can be difficult to juggle work and help the children with their work. Unfortunately we have no other choice and we need to support the children with their learning during this time. Below are some reminders about online learning;

Kinder - Year 2 are using the platform See Saw. Work is set each day so the children continue to learn during lockdown. All online activity is recorded by the classroom teacher.

Year 3 - Year 6 are using the platform Google Classroom. Work is set each day and there is a daily Zoom (Years 3 - 4 Zoom is at midday and Years 5 -6 Zoom is at 10.30). These Zooms are an opportunity for children to ask questions about the work. Each child is strongly encouraged to join the daily Zoom to get support from the class teacher as well as an opportunity to stay connected with classmates.

Religious Education News | Mark Galea

Community Liturgy at 10:00am each Friday: Thank you to all children and families who have been able to join us for our weekly liturgies on Fridays. It is a great way for us to step away from work and spend 15 minutes with our community and Father Andrew in thought and prayer. Mr Mahony has been sending a zoom invite through skoolbag each week, making it easy for you to connect.

Fathers Day Liturgy: We will be celebrating a special Fathers Day Liturgy via zoom on Friday 3rd September at 10:00am. We would love to add some photos and drawings of the wonderful dads in our community, so we encourage children to send them through to the school email at htgranille@parra.catholic.edu.au. A zoom invitation will be sent to you closer to the event. We hope you can join us.

Stage 3 Thoughts about Prayer: During this time of remote learning the students have been focussing on prayer and building their faith. Years 5 and 6 have been thinking deeply about the importance of prayer in their lives this week. We thought you may be inspired by their thoughts.

How does prayer influence the decisions I make?

  • Praying is so important in my life because praying can sometimes be a mediation and a free time for me to talk to God. (Aaron)

  • Prayer comforts me and makes sure I don’t give up. (Vanessa)

Sometimes my prayers don’t get answered. Why does this happen?

  • God wants you to face your fears so you won’t always be afraid. God will always be with you. (Gabryella)

  • God wants to know that when things get hard we can be firm and trust that He will meet our needs. (Mia)

Prayer is important in my life because…

  • It is important because I can ask someone for help and talk to someone when I am sad. (Logan)

  • Prayer is important in my life because it builds a better relationship with God. (Hannah)

Stay Connected to Our Parish: We are very fortunate to have Father Andrew and the parish team continuing to reach out to us during this pandemic through various types of media. You can take part in live streams of mass, daily Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, or connect with the community in prayer. Please follow these links for more information:

Supporting Families' Health and Wellbeing

Keeping active and healthy is important for our physical and mental wellbeing, particularly at this time when we are required to stay at home.To support the health and wellbeing of staff and families, Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) has developed a toolkit of "Healthy@Home" social media tiles and messages.

The Healthy@Home tiles provide families with practical tips and resources for:

  • being active
  • eating well
  • staying connected
  • supporting mental wellbeing.

There are a range of tiles you can choose to download including some which have been translated into other languages. We hope the practical tips and information are helpful for your families at this time.

The information is housed on the WSLHD Covid 19 Community Resourses for Western Sydney web page, where you'll find a lot of local COVID-19 related information (linked to NSW Govt sites).

Please contact WSLHD-MunchAndMove@health.nsw.gov.au if you have any questions about the toolkit.
