Principal's Report

Dear families,

A week is a long time in Horsham! Since the last newsletter we have all experienced another lockdown and days of Remote Learning. I would like to thank our students and their families for the smooth adjustment to Remote Learning and back into Zoom lessons, in particular our Year 7 students who have had to learn new systems very quickly. I would also like to thank the teachers and support staff for their agility in moving to remote learning mode with very little notice. If this pandemic has shown us anything, it is how resilient and flexible we can be when it is demanded of us. Well done everyone.

As a result of the Circuit Breaker, the College has postponed our opening Mass to 1 March at 11am. Once again, all families are welcome and this year we will combine this Mass with the 2020 Academic Celebration, in which we celebrate the excellent VCE results the College obtained last year.

As we move into Lent, we are called to reflect on who we are and the life we are currently living. We should ask “Am I being the best person I can be?”. What is my relationship with God? How am I baring witness to the Gospel Values of Love, Courage, Faith, Justice and Service?

Yesterday we returned to school through the experience of the Swimming Sports. It was a wonderful atmosphere at the Horsham Pool with much laughter to be heard and some excellent swimming. This year for the first time we invited students in Grades 4,5 and 6 from Ss. Michael and John’s Primary school. These young students participated in many events and joined in with the spirit of the day – their presence certainly added to the positive vibe. I would like to thank our sports Coordinator, Tamika Burdett and her support team for the professional way in which the sports were run. I have seen many swimming carnivals at different schools and without doubt, this was the most organised and efficient carnival I have seen. I would also like to thank Beth Dortmans from St Mick’s for organising her school’s participation. We continue to seek to strengthen our connection with Ss Michael and  John’s.

Hopefully next week we can now settle into a routine of learning.

Teacher Advisor Schedule

All our students are assigned to a vertical homeroom consisting of students from Years 7 – 12.  Home room groups stay together for their entire school life at St Brigid’s, encouraging leadership, community and familiarity and giving students a real opportunity to know each other and their advisor.  Lifelong friendships are formed where there may not otherwise be the opportunity.

The Teacher Advisor (TA) program is part of the daily life of students. Homerooms meet for 10 minutes each morning, and approximately every six weeks each student meets individually with their Teacher Advisor to discuss and monitor their academic and pastoral progress. A report over viewing the student’s academic achievement and future goals for improvement is formulated from this interview and made available to parents via our online Parent Access Module (PAM).  This regular contact builds trust and strong relationships between students, teachers and families.   It ensures that families and teachers know each student’s strengths and needs and that secure relationships are formed that guide the students along their learning journey.

Our TA Schedule for Term 1 can be found below.
