Second Sunday of Lent

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark

Jesus took with him Peter and James and John and led them up a high mountain where they could be alone by themselves. There in their presence he was transfigured: his clothes became dazzlingly white, whiter than any earthly bleacher could make them. Elijah appeared to them with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus. Then Peter spoke to Jesus. ‘Rabbi,’ he said ‘it is wonderful for us to be here; so let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.’ He did not know what to say; they were so frightened. And a cloud came, covering them in shadow; and there came a voice from the cloud, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to him.’ Then suddenly, when they looked round, they saw no one with them any more but only Jesus.

As they came down from the mountain he warned them to tell no one what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead. They observed the warning faithfully, though among themselves they discussed what ‘rising from the dead’ could mean.

Gospel Reflection

There, in their presence, he was transfigured.

Last Sunday’s Gospel described Jesus’ entry into the wilderness and it was suggested that this was a time of encountering God. In today’s Gospel, while the setting is different, we glimpse such a moment of encounter. It is described as a moment of transformation, or transfiguration. An encounter with God changes us. In the Gospel this is depicted as the outer change in Jesus’ appearance, but for most of us, the experience of God brings about an inner change, a change of heart. Jesus knows himself in this moment to be God’s beloved one. © Mary Coloe

Parish/School Masses

Students will be attending Parish mass once a term on Thursday mornings. Year 6 attended yesterday and it was a great feeling to celebrate the Eucharist once again as a grade. Years 2-5 will attend over the coming weeks. Next term will see K- 6 attending.

Weekend family/parish masses have not yet resumed. Reconciliation for Years 4-6  will commence in the coming weeks.

Parking

Thank you to all parents for your support during morning drop off. It  continues to work fairly smoothly but relies on the cooperation of all parents. However, there have been a few issues this week with parking at morning drop off.

We ask that parents please remember:

  • Be patient and considerate of other drivers.
  • Move right down to the end of the green fence and behind the car in front so that you don't cause a build up of traffic behind you. The whole area in front of the church is a drop off zone in the morning. Some parents are stopping at the front of the school gates instead of moving down behind the car in front of them. This is causing frustration with other parents waiting to drop their child at school.
  • Leave promptly after letting your children out of the car.
  • You can not be parked for any longer than two minutes and must remain within three metres of your car in the drop off zone.
  • Do not park across the driveways of residents, morning or afternoon
  • Do not  verbally abuse other drivers.

It is important that we set a good example for our children.

Please see link on SCHOOL ZONE PARKING RULES AND PENALTIES

Reading Eggs and Mathletics

This week you would have received an email about Reading Eggs and Mathletics subscriptions for 2021.

If you would like to purchase one or both of these resources please make your payment through the QKR app (the same app used to purchase school uniforms).

Mathletics - $35

Reading Eggs - $25

The final date that a payment can be made is Monday 8th March, after this date the QKR app won't be able to process payments.

Shortly after the 8th March, students who have purchased subscriptions will be given their login details to take home. Any questions, please contact Mrs Neylan.

Events

As the year progresses, we are trying to ensure we return to normal events with our students. Excursions have been planned and are going ahead. Thursday morning mass with the parish commenced this week with Year 6 attending and other grades to follow each week.  We are also aiming to return to Yattendon Oval for Friday sport for Years 3 to Year 6.

Excursion Volunteers

Unfortunately at this stage, we are unable to have parent volunteers assist with excursions. We are hoping that these restrictions will soon be eased. Adequate supervision will still be provided for all excursions.

Early Years Assessment

Twice a year the Catholic Education Office ask us to assess our early years students - Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2, in the area of Literacy. These assessments are one-to-one assessments and takes place during weeks 6 and 7 at school. The data gained from these assessments is extremely valuable in helping us maintain our high standards of Literacy.
