Dudley Public School Newsletter

Term 3 Weeks 3 and 4

Principal’s Message

Today we celebrated Book Week 2019. How wonderful it was to see all the students and staff dressed as their favourite character from a book they love. At Dudley Public School we aim to foster a love of reading for all our students. Teachers share favourite books reading to students of all ages. Even Year 6 enjoy sitting and listening to someone else read.

Reading allows children to learn about new things, escape into their imagination, develop vocabulary and is a life long skill. How we model reading to our students is important.

Do they see you read more than the shopping list or newspaper?

Do you read to your children everyday?

Do you share conversations about books?

Read everyday with your children - it creates lifelong habits and a love of books. 10 minutes is enough but longer doesn't hurt.

Help us build a love of literature in our students.

Week 3 Award Recipients

Congratulations to all of our award winners!

Creative Arts Day

Creative Arts Day is coming up in Week 8, Monday 9 September.

We still require more volunteers, particularly in Stage 3 classes, to help run activities. Unfortunately, if we do not get enough parent helpers, some classes will miss out on this exciting learning opportunity. Please contact your child's class teacher if you or a family member can help.

Many thanks to the parents who have already volunteered and paid. Now is the time to talk to the class teacher and start organising your activity. Each activity has a budget of $90 in total. Please keep any receipts and give them to the class teacher so you can be reimbursed for your purchases.

Paul Kelly Cup State Finals

Congratulations to our Dudley PS boys AFL side. They attended the Paul Kelly Cup State Finals at Giants Stadium on Monday 5 August place third overall in NSW!

The boys started the day with two convincing wins over both Coff Harbour PS and Central Coast Adventist School. The third match in their pool was against Knox Grammar who were unfortunately a little too strong for our team and came away with the win.

Dudley finished the pool round in second place so they went on to verse Albury PS who came first in Pool B. Dudley played well but Albury PS had a strong run in the second half and took the win.

During the lunch break, they held a running race where each team had to choose their fastest runner to compete against the other seven teams. Of course, we chose Toby Winter who had an amazing run and placed second by only a fraction of a second. I was actually convinced he had won it but it wasn't to be. Well done Toby!

Our final match of the day was against St Angela's Primary School to see who would place third and who would be fourth. The two teams were evenly matched and it was a fast paced game with some exceptional skill on display. Dudley proved too strong in the end and were happy to walk away in third place overall.

I would like to congratulate every player on the team. They showed exceptional sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the whole day and the way they encouraged and supported each other was a real credit to each of them. The team and I would also like to pass on our gratitude to Daniel Wardle who assisted with coaching duties on the field for the day. His advice and encouragement was invaluable to the team and myself.

Lastly but not least, we would like to thank the members of the girls AFL team, parents and family members who made the trip down to support the boys. We certainly had the most vocal supporters with the most impressive signs. Congratulations Albury PS for winning the day and to Knox Grammar who were the runners up.

Bring on 2020! Go the Hawkdogs!

NSW Rugby League State Final

On Wednesday 7 August Dudley Public School competed in the NSW Rugby League State Finals (representing the Knights, after winning the 5/6 Knights Knockout). The team travelled to Whalan Reserve in Penrith to compete. The boys put in their best performance yet and won all of their pool games, three out of the four without letting in a try. In the semi-finals we contested a hard fought match but were unfortunately beaten by St Patricks, Macksville, meaning we finished 3rd in the state. We would like to thank Danny Nugus for giving up his time to coach us, the parent helpers who assisted with team transportation and Mr Kiely for organising and managing the school team.

Canberra excursion - PACER

Students from Dudley PS will soon be undertaking an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate has been factored into price each student has paid for this excursion.
