Melrose Park Public School Newsletter

Term 1 Week 2

From the Principal

Welcome to the 2021 school year. We welcome all our students back for a new year of learning and growing. We especially welcome our new families to the Melrose Park community and our great school.

COVID CONDITIONS

The school continues to follow the NSW Health Advice and the Department of Education Covid guidelines. I can ensure you that while the situation may be frustrating, our priority is to maintain health and safety for all.

The following guidelines will be in place at Melrose Park Public School:

COVID Safe Practices

Currently, parents are allowed on site for the following reasons:

  • To attend a meeting with staff –  Please arrange a time through the office. Sign in via the Service NSW app and visit the front office.  Masks are not mandatory but are still welcome.
  • To purchase and pick up school uniforms with an appointment.
  • Kindergarten parents can drop off and pick up students this week. If collecting older siblings, please move off-site to the gate.

If Your Child is Unwell

Any student who is unwell.  If you child is displaying Covid symptoms please arrange for them to have a Covid test which states they are negative before returning to school.

We appreciate your continued support with these systems.  We look forward to a productive year ahead.

A happy first day of Kindergarten 2021

Kindergarten teachers

Meet the Teacher

Today classes were formed across the school. Your child will come home with a note from their 2021 class teacher welcoming you to the new year and inviting you to meet them in the coming week.  The session will look different from previous years. These sessions will be held either in the library or hall.

Class Parent:

If you are interested in supporting the teacher in the role of Class Parent, please send an email to; melrosepk-p.school.nsw.edu.au and this information will be forwarded onto each teacher.  Thank you to the parents who have expressed an interest already.

Covid Conditions

Schools can accommodate up to 30 parents on site for meetings following physical distancing measures. For this reason, teachers have organised class meetings at different times over the week.

Uniforms

I would like to thank our wonderful uniform volunteers and online website coordinator who have been busy organising and outfitting the students.  Our students look great.  Uniforms continue to be ordered online and sent to student's classroom as the delivery method.

The second option for the girl's summer uniform is now active. Girls now have the option to wear the royal blue pleated shorts with a white short sleeve shirt.  The white polo shirt may be worn if a girl does not have a white shirt.

Swimming Carnival

Every year the annual swimming carnival is the first major sporting activity where students participate for personal best, achievement and fun.

This Thursday 4 February students from Year 3 - 6 will travel by bus to Granville Swimming Centre. Permission notes have been sent home and need an immediate turn around back to the school.

Students wear their swimmers underneath their sports uniform. They can wear their house colour t-shirt as they sit with their Blaxland (yellow), Wentworth (red) or Lawson (sky blue) team during the day.

We thank the student leadership team from Marsden High School who will help coordinate the running of the carnival.

COVID Conditions

Parents, carers and other spectators may attend sporting events held outside of the school site in accordance with the COVID-19 Safety Plan of the venue (e.g. swimming carnivals). Physical distancing between adults is essential. Parents will not be sitting with students and need to sit away from each other. The kiosk may not be operating for food purchases.

Kiss and Ride changes

Student safety is our highest priority, especially at dissmissal time.

Kiss n Ride signs have been updated on Wharf Rd and you will also notice that the Kiss n Ride zone has been increased to take in all of the southern length of the school's fenceline along Wharf Rd. Please be mindful of the signs. Kiss n Ride signs work as NO PARKING and the penalty for not adhering includes losing 2 demerit points and a $165 fine.

To help the flow of traffic we ask;

1. Drivers Do Not Leave your Vehicle

To assist with traffic flow in the Kiss n Ride Zone, drivers are encouraged to remain in the car while the children get in and out. To facilitate this, children should travel with bags in the car and not in the boot. If a driver must get out, they MUST NOT move more than 3 metres from their vehicle.

2. Be Timely

If your child does not enter or exit the vehicle within 2 minutes you are required to travel around the block and re-enter the zone at the end of the queue.

3. Kerb Side Entry / Exit

Ensure your child enters / exits the vehicle on the kerb side. Ensure your child has their restraint securely fastened before moving off from the Kiss n Ride Zone.

4. Stay in Sequence

Please queue in an orderly manner. Drop/pick-up your child as close as you can to the top of the zone allowing vehicles following you to enter the designated area.

5. No U Turns

U turns in this busy school zone is dangerous and puts children at risk.

TIP:

  • Place your family name on the left hand side of the windscreen. This will identify your car and the teacher can call out the family name.  The student can then move to the car.
  • There is ample parking at the end of Wharf Rd and it is a small walk to the school to collect your child/ren.

Kitchen Garden

Thank you to our parent volunteers, the English and Phun families, who helped keep the gardens watered over the summer holiday. Whilst we were away the sunflowers bloomed and were enjoyed by the many cockatoos looking for seed.

We look forward to a wonderful year of environmental education and gardening this year.

Mrs Spenceley,  Environment coordinator
