From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our thoughts and prayers are with the north eastern states of Australia this week as they battle life threatening floods and destruction of property.

Please be aware that we finish school next Thursday at 2:20pm and the first day of term 2 is a Teacher Curriculum Day and Student Free Day. Classes begin on Tuesday April 20.

This week we had electrical and land surveyors at the school in preparation for our major building project later in the year.  Plans are being finalised with MortonDunn Architects.  The plans will be displayed in the school foyer once completed.  We are redeveloping the 3 Year 3-4 classrooms while adding an open, flexible learning space and 2 additional classrooms to replace the portable classrooms currently on site.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the "Street Race" and BBQ on Friday night.

Kind regards,

Olga Lyons, Principal

Working for the Common Good

Year 3 and 4 students have been learning about the Catholic Social Teaching of Working for the Common Good.

We have learnt that the Common Good means working for the good of all people. We know that we are called to think about and act for everyone, not just ourselves.

We realised that we have all been working for the common good during Covid 19, as when we stayed home, we were making sure that people in our community stayed safe from the spread of the virus. It was hard but we did it to keep everyone safe.

Working with our School Matrix and following the rules to make sure everyone can be safe, respectful and be a learner at school, is also how we work for the Common Good.

We asked the question, How do you use your hands for the Common Good of our school community?

The pictures below show how we use our hands to answer God’s call to work for the Common Good.

Regional Swimming Results

St. Patrick’s students attended The Greater Western Region Swimming Championships in Horsham last Friday.  The results of our students' efforts were very impressive.

In breaststroke events Charlie Murray and Emily Leddin finished 14th and 5th respectively.

Alice Macpherson finished 10th in backstroke, whilst Mali Little finished 7th in butterfly and 11th in backstroke.

Our mixed freestyle relay team of Charlie, Emily, Sarah Macmillan and Harrison Lu finished 5th overall.

All of these results are very impressive and the fact these swimmers can count themselves in the top 5 -15 swimmers for their age group in the Greater Western region of Victoria is something to be very proud of.

Thank you very much to the mums and dads who transported children on the day and provided support for their events.

Moyne Athletics Results

This week on Wednesday, St. Patrick’s students attended the 2021 Moyne Schools Athletics at Brauerander Park in Warrnambool.  Schools within the Moyne Zone consist of ourselves, Port Fairy Consolidated School, St Patrick’s Primary School Koroit, Woolsthorpe Primary School, Hawkesdale Primary School and Koroit and District Primary School.

It was a wet but cool day and good for competing.  Due to slippery track conditions the high jump events were cancelled but will be run sometime in the very near future.  St Pat’s students performed very well and a number of children finished in top three placings.  Many of these children will now compete on May 7th at the Warrnambool and District Athletics Championships.  Children placing 1st or 2nd in the track events will compete at the next level.  Children who placed 1st in field events will compete at the next level.

Regardless of top 3 place getters we are just very proud of the efforts all of our students put in for the day.  As usual we were most proud of our student’s sportsmanship and respectful participation throughout the day.

The Greg Fitzgibbon Shield is awarded each year to the school most successful overall in relay races and this year we were the recipients due to us winning 4 out of the 6 relay races and placing 2nd in the remaining two relays.

Thank you to all the mums and dads for attending as spectators and supporting St Patrick’s students.

TERM 2 Sport

It has been a busy first term with St Patrick’s students representing in Tennis, Swimming and Athletics.  In each of these sports we have had students advance to the next rounds of competition.  In term 2 we look forward to Winter Sports where football, netball, soccer and the cross country run will be running district events.  So there will be more opportunities to come for our children to represent our school.

We would love your family to come along and participate. Grandparents and older/younger siblings are most welcome.

All you have to do is walk, run, scoot or ride your way around town to find as many checkpoints (marked on the race map) as you can in 1 hour.

The BBQ orders have closed but families can come along and join in the fun by purchasing a ticket on the night.

Icy-poles, cold drinks and race snacks will be available for purchase on the night.

We look forward to seeing everyone there!
