Challenge Cup

Challenge Cup – Congratulations to the St Joseph’s Wandal Netball and Rugby League teams who competed in the three-day Challenge Cup last week. Our teams came up against some hard competition from much bigger schools with experienced teams. I was so proud of the children’s perseverance, grit and most importantly, positive attitude. This is due in part to their coaches - thank you Geoff and Rheanna. Thanks too to Clinton Wagg, Anna McKenzie , Zoe-Lea Morgan and Stuart Douglas for assisting our teams and coaches.  We also had a wonderful group of supporters cheering on our children over the three days.  Thank you for taking the time to see our children in action and encouraging them so well.

A special congratulations to the Netball team who had an amazing winning streak over the carnival and won Division Four, bringing home the Bowl Trophy.

Congratulations to the following students who are the recipients of carnival awards:

Emm-Jae. M - Coach’s Award

Friday afternoon sport

Friday afternoon interschool sport (Rugby League, Netball and Hockey) will recommence this Friday (Week Two). Please ensure your child has all of their equipment as we do not allow phone calls home for forgotten gear.

Prep Parent 2022 Information Night

Our Parent Information Session was held last Thursday and I thank the many parents who attended. The school hall was full to the brim! Enrolment interviews are now underway and it is lovely to see so many people interested in attending our school. Many people enrol here purely because of ‘word of mouth’ and I thank our current families for the positive way in which you speak about the work we do here and for being great ambassadors for St Joseph’s Wandal.

Homework Club

Homework Club recommenced this week and will continue throughout Term Three for any interested students in Years Three to Six. Please remember that your children must be ‘booked in’ to Homework Club by midday each Tuesday.

P and F Meeting

Our next P and F Meeting will be held in the Prep classrooms tomorrow, Thursday 22 July at 5.15pm. Nibblies will be provided. Please pop along to have a chat and to see what we discuss at these meetings.

Prayer Reflection - Gospel Focus

Mk 6:30-34

Jesus pities the crowd, sheep without a shepherd.

In Mark's Gospel, the ‘great crowd’ who followed Jesus around is a bit blurred and individuals are not recognisable. Jesus describes the crowd as ‘sheep without a shepherd’. He is clearly tired of the demands made on him, but he feels compassion for his followers. They are looking for leadership – someone to draw new meanings from life. Jesus will give them more than they bargained for. His message, about God's kingdom, evokes renewal and transformation.

Year One A Prayer Assembly

Please join us for Year 1A’s prayer celebration this Friday morning in the Undercover Area at 8.35 am. We will be celebrating our grandparents. All grandparents and special adults are invited to join us for morning tea afterwards.

Catholic Education Week Celebrations

Celebrated annually in the third week of Term Three, Catholic Education Week is an opportunity for all 309 Catholic schools in Queensland to celebrate and promote their distinctive mission and ethos. The theme for this year’s celebrations is: A Spirited Tomorrow. You may have seen the banner on the fence at the front of the school. Catholic Education strives to  make a difference in the lives of those in our schools  and  in  the  wider community by challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society.

During the week students will celebrate Catholic Education Week within their classrooms and there will also be a number of celebrations held throughout the school including:

Monday 26 - The Picnic on the Grass on the Grass

Wednesday 28 - A School Disco

Thursday 29 - Michael Mangan Concert

Friday 30 - Prayer Celebration on Friday

Grandparents Day

Disco Fundraiser for Year 6 Camp

On Wednesday 28 July from 5.30 - 7.00 pm we will host a disco in the Quadrangle.  All funds raised will be donated to our Year Six students, who will be attending a Leadership Camp at Chaverim (Bunderberg) in the coming weeks.

Upon arrival, each student's name will be recorded and parents will be required to sign their children out at the conclusion of the disco.  A $2 sausage sizzle will be available for those students who wish to purchase something extra to eat.

If parents would like to stay and socialise for the duration of the disco, the P and F have kindly offered to organise nibblies. Drinks will be available to purchase.

To ensure we adhere to the latest COVID requirements, whilst making this an enjoyable and safe event, parents who do stay will be required to check in using the QLD Government App and remain in  the Undercover Area for the duration of the disco.

We are delighted to be hosting a disco this term!

Year Six Camp News

Our Year Six Camp is less than four weeks away and we most certainly are on the count down! The cost of our Year Six camp has been estimated at $400.00 per student. Please ensure this is paid in full before we depart on the 10 August. If you wish to make a payment plan, please contact the office and we can assist you with this matter.

If you anticipate the cost of Year Six Camp to be difficult, please contact Mrs Kellie Jenkinson to make alternate arrangements.

After our fundraising efforts at the disco next week, should the cost of our excursion be reduced then we will credit the remaining funds to end of year graduation expenses.

Catholic Education Week - Picnic on the Grass

COVID restrictions are in place for signing in and out of this school event.  Please ensure you have your phone on you to scan the QR code, thus making signing in a much smoother process.

Students who are part of this team are reminded that training will happen at school today (Wednesday 21 July) and next Wednesday 28 July.  The times for the training sessions have been previously communicated.
