A message from our Principal

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to Term 2, 2021 – how things have changed in 12 months! This time last year our students were learning from home. It was so nice to return to our beautiful school with the gates wide open for our students, parents and staff.

School Photos

School Photos will take place at our school on Friday 30th April. The most important detail in relation to the day is that all students will be required to wear normal summer school uniform – not sports uniform as is the usual practice on Fridays. This will continually be communicated over the next week through our numerous platforms. Year 6 students will be required to wear their Year 6 shirt on the day.

ANZAC Service

This Friday 23rd April, WWS will conduct its annual ANZAC Day service. Our school has a proud tradition of recognising this important event and ensuring that our students understand its significance as part of our country’s recent past.

NAPLAN Preparation

NAPLAN testing will take place this term during Weeks 4 & 5. In the weeks leading up to the assessments, student will undergo practice to ensure they are familiar with the types of questions they will be asked. As always, we stay focused on the fact that these assessments are a snap shot in time and serve predominantly as a tool for us to determine what content we need to teach our students in the next stages of their development.

Staffing Update

A big congratulations to Miss Olivia Mostaert who has been permanently placed at WWSPS through the graduate appointment system. Miss Mostaert is a highly valued member of our staff and will be an asset to our school community for years to come! Welcome also to Mrs Niamh Minogue who will be joining our staff this term to assist with Learning and Support.

Congratulations also to Miss Mulligan who became Mrs Phillips during the holidays. 3/4T will retain their class name for the remainder of the 2021.

Have a great week everyone,

Matt Barr

Principal

Welcome Back to Term 2!

Stewart House Donation Drive

Woy Woy South PS has a proud tradition of supporting Stewart House, an organisation that provides support for 1 700 children across the ACT and NSW each year. Each family will receive an envelope today to donate a $2 coin. By completing the entry details and returning the envelope with a $2 coin donation, each family will be in the draw for a $4 000 holiday or gift voucher. Good luck to all and thank you for supporting Stewart House.

NAPLAN Online 2021

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

Our school will be participating in NAPLAN Online between 11 and 21 May 2021.

In preparation for NAPLAN Online, our school will also be participating in practice tests between 22 March and 1 April. The practice test is a trial-run and key preparation activity for NAPLAN Online in May. It is not an assessment of student ability and the tests will not be marked. Excessive preparation for NAPLAN Online is not recommended. Students can use the public demonstration site (https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site) to familiarise themselves with the types of questions and tools available in the NAPLAN Online tests.

If you have any questions about NAPLAN Online, please contact your child’s teacher.
