Congratulations to all of the students for the wonderful start to the school year. I visit all classes most days and it is so nice to see students in full school uniform, learning and being challenged. One of the best decisions we have made, thanks to COVID, was to stop morning assemblies where the students used to line up under the COLA. Every morning we lost valuable learning time. Now students are in class and often the roll is marked and learning has started by 9:05am. It really is great to see.
As a staff we have discussed a number of times the logistics of Meet the Teacher. As mentioned last newsletter we can’t have our annual Welcome BBQ due to restrictions to the number of adults allowed on the site – but we are going to call it "Postponed” in the hope of holding it later in the year. We can’t have large groups of parents on site for Meet the Teacher meetings either. Zoom difficult to organise with the consideration that some families would need to be in two or three zoom meetings. Instead we have moved our “Student Led Conferences” forward. These will now be in Week 7, earlier than planned for Term 1. This will give parents/carers the opportunity to meet with your child and your child’s class teacher. Information will come home very soon outlining booking an appointment time and COVID restrictions. Thank you for your understanding.
GLOBAL PERMISSION
I have updated our Global Permission form. A paper copy will be coming home today with every student. Can I please ask that you fill this in, regardless of when you filled in the last one, and return it to the class teacher as soon as possible. I just want to make sure that all of our information is current and up to date. I won’t be publishing any photos of students in this newsletter as I want to make sure our permission to publish your child has not changed.
STUDENT LEADER INDUCTION
On Monday afternoon we were able to induct our six student leaders in a special assembly. Students on the school leadership team for 2021 are:
Captains - Madison and Zali
Leaders – Amelia, Levi, Fred and Kobie.
I look forward to working with the team throughout 2021.
KEEPING OUR KIDS SAFE AND HEALTHY
We have a number of students enrolled in our school who have severe, life threatening allergic reactions to some foods particularly tree nuts, peanuts and kiwi fruit. We ask for the co-operation of our school community in helping to minimise the risk to these students by not including peanut butter, Nutella or nut based food in their children’s lunches. Please talk to your child about not sharing or swapping lunches or other food. Your efforts will help make our school a safer place for all our students.
SCHOOL PHOTOS
Whole school, class, leadership and specialty photos will be taken on Wednesday 10 March. An envelope was sent home with every child last week. Please note Preschool Garuwa photos will be taken on Thursday 11 March, as 10 March is Bathu Bila’s day at preschool. All students K-6 should be in full school uniform including white socks and black shoes. Envelopes must be brought to school on this day unless you have paid online. Family photo envelopes are available at the office - please send an email to the school and our fabulous ladies in the office will give it to your child to bring home.
