Principal's Message

Dear Community

Welcome back for Term 2!

As you now be aware, we have come back to the news that Mr Josh Dorozenko has been appointed in a permanent capacity to the Deputy Principal position at Chidlow PS. He finished up here at Scarborough on Tuesday, and has now started in his new role at Chidlow.

Mr Dorozenko has been with us for just over two years and in that time has had a positive impact on our school in many ways. He has held the roles of classroom teacher, deputy principal and School Board member and added a high degree of value in each of these capacities, bringing many fresh insights and ideas into our school. I would also like to acknowledge the high level of positive relationships that Josh has formed with not only the students in his class, but also across the school – he is universally adored which makes his leaving all the more bittersweet.

Whilst we are saddened to lose such a key member of our community, I am sure you will join with me in congratulating Mr Dorozenko on this achievement and wish him every success for the future.

Josh, you will be sorely missed. We hope Chidlow PS appreciate how lucky they are to have you!

I am currently working on securing a replacement that best fits the needs of our school and should be able to give you details of our new appointment in the next newsletter.

Term 2
Term 2 is looking to be even busier than Term 1, with lots of important events and activities scheduled across all areas of the school. Some of the things to look forward to include:

  • Year 6 Camp: Our Year 6s head out to the hills in Week 5 for 3 days of team building
  • RAC Bike Education Incursion: Our Year 4-6 students will be participating in a Bike Education program between Weeks 3 and 6. This program is being provided to us free of charge as part of our involvement in the Your Move initiative.
  • NAPLAN: It’s that time of year again where our Year 3 and Year 5 students participate in national literacy and numeracy testing. With the exception of Year 3 Writing, the tests are now conducted online.
  • Dance: Our whole school Dance program, provided by Humphries, starts on May 20 and continues every Thursday until the end of term. All PP to Year 6 students will be participating.
  • School Photos: Fotoworks will be back in Week 7 for our annual class and individual photographs.
  • Cross Country: Our whole school cross country events will be held at Deanmore Square on 11 June
  • STEAM EXPO: look out for an exhibition displaying our cross curricular creativity and innovation in Week 10
  • Further details will be made available closer to each event. Please continue to check the Term Planner for changes and updates.

Before and After School
Please read below for a reminder of some of our before and after school procedures.

  • Classroom doors are opened for students at 8:35am. Before 8:35am, school staff are busy preparing for the day and engaging in meetings so there is no supervision for students prior to this time.
  • Any students on school site without parents should wait at the colourful tables near the undercover area where they will be supervised from around 8:20am.
  • There should be no parents or students on site before 8:20am without an appointment.
  • After school, all parents and students should have left the school site by 3:20pm. We are still having problems with students remaining on site unsupervised, some becoming involved in inappropriate and unsafe activities. Deanmore Square is our closest public facility for after school catch-ups
  • For safety reasons, scooters, bikes and skateboards should not be ridden on school site. Students should dismount once they enter school grounds and walk their wheels to their parking spots.

Engaging in the above processes helps to keep our school a safe and positive environment for all of our students, so we thank you in advance.

School Board

Our next School Board meeting is next Wednesday, 28 April at 6pm in the art room. The main focus of this meeting will be the school budget for 2021. As always, if you are interested in coming along to see what Board meetings are all about, please just email me at Sarah.Dawson@education.wa.edu.au so that I can register your intended attendance.

As always, if you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to call or email me on Sarah.Dawson@education.wa.edu.au

Your Move Program

Dear parents, families and Scarborough Primary School community

We have fantastic news to share! Scarborough primary school has WON, yes that’s correct we are the WINNERS of this year’s “Your Move” getting as many parents as possible to sign up competition. So, a BIG thank you to our community of parents who signed up to Your Move during March 2021. We are super proud! Also, thank you to all our teachers and staff for supporting this great program.

The final result kept us at the top of the leader board with 56% of families signed up! CONGRATULATIONS!! We cannot do this without our wonderful parents and families’ support!! For parents who wish to join the program, it is not too late. Every bit we do for Your Move helps us to earn valuable points to receive rewards for our school.

As the winners of this competition, our school has been rewarded up to $3,500 worth of much needed active transport equipment for our bikes and scooters: We are in the process of ordering what will best suit our growing school.

Stay tuned, we have many activities and events happening this term to help us earn points:

  • Our first Your Move official assembly will be held in term 2 (with a special guest).
  • Active travel days to start this term starting in Week 2. The two active travel days is set for a Tuesday and Thursday. On these two days, travel to school by walking, scootering or cycling. We will be collecting the data each week. As winter approaches, we know it will be harder, but let’s try keep active on these two days!
  • National Road Safety Week starts on Monday 17 May to 21 Friday May 2021. Look out for activities carried out through the school or within your child’s class.
  • RAC Bike Education sponsored by YOUR MOVE is coming to SPS to instruct and educate our students on active travel using bikes for our Year 4s, 5s and 6s). This is once a week on a Monday over a 4-week period. Children will need their own bikes and helmets. Starts Monday Week 3 to Monday Week 6.
  • Your Move team will be holding a SURPRISE hands up survey during this term to gauge how active our students are travelling to and from school. So, it is best to stay active every day if possible, to earn points for our school. We understand that parents have to drive to school. So, why not park at Deanmore Square park then walk the 200 metres to the gate. This counts as a “park and walk”. You will be counted!
  • We will be sending out a PARENT’s SURVEY this term. We greatly value the opinions and support of our community and want to hear from you.  Together with the P&C, some prizes will be allocated. Please watch this space for more details and the link.
  • In addition to the Parent Survey, we will be placing a YOUR MOVE suggestion box in the office, if you have any ideas that may help our school earn points, or if you wish to provide or sponsor prizes for our school, be more actively involved or additional activities or events we can earn points, we want to hear from you. Please complete the post it note and place it inside the suggestion box.

Once again, congratulations to our school as the winners of this great competition.

Our school currently has 564 reward points and is sitting on silver. We look forward to another term of earning points for our school.

Thank you, stay active!

P&C News

Hello Everyone!

Welcome back after a wonderful and hopefully restful school holidays. And a warm welcome to all the new families!

Who are we?

The SPS P&C (Parent and Citizens Association) is primarily a fundraising body in our school. Our focus is to raise funds to support the school and the students in their growth and well-being.

Everyone is welcome to join the P&C, whether as member or just to keep informed on our events and contributions. Our next meeting is on Monday 3 May at 6.30pm in the school library.

2020 saw the P&C contribute to assist with swimming costs, Mathletics, music, and choir shirts. We raise our funds through events, dress-up days, the Entertainment Book, Booklist etc. and of course the on-going delivery of the Canteen and Uniform Shop.

Mother’s Day Stall

We will kick off Term 2 with our super popular Mother’s Day stall in Week 3. This year there will be lots of different gifts to buy Mum or Grandma, so remember to bring some money to school with you. Average price of the gifts is around $3 and last year we sold out completely so get in quick! The stall will be held on Wednesday 5 May and Thursday 6 May between 8.30am-8.50am.

We are looking for some parents to help with the Mother’s Day stall. This would only be for a short time, i.e. 8.20am-9.10am on either Wednesday or Thursday. Please contact the P&C if you can help. Thank you!

Entertainment Book

Another excellent idea for a Mother’s Day gift is to support our Entertainment Book fundraiser.

Why not give mum the VIP treatment with Entertainment? Packed with thousands of valuable offers across dining, retail, attractions and travel, an Entertainment Membership is the gift she can enjoy all year round. And if you order between now and the 10th May, she will also receive a $20 or $40 eGift Card!

Buy today and she will have three months to activate her membership, once activated, she will have 12 months of amazing offers at her fingertips.

We think Mum will love it even more for supporting Scarborough Primary School, knowing it helps a good cause. A one year membership is $69.99 with 20% going back to our P&C fundraiser!

Containers for Change

We will continue to fundraise through the Containers for Change initiative. The Containers for Change bins can be found at the school entry at Hinderwell Street near the Room 9 Heritage Building. Keep on bringing those empty cans and bottles to support the P&C!

Alternatively, if you wish to donate at a refund point of your choosing you can quote our Scheme ID C10240685. If you prefer to attend a Reverse Vending Machine location please use the barcode at the bottom of the P&C news. This may be your preference if you have a larger donation and be rest assured that the money goes back to the P&C.

Canteen

A big THANK YOU to everyone who has been able to volunteer in canteen during Term 1. Your support and time is what makes canteen a success! We look forward to seeing you and new volunteers this term.

We are always looking for canteen volunteers. So, if you have any Friday mornings available, Laura would love some assistance in the SPS canteen.

E-mail us at the P&C or speak to Laura on Fridays in the canteen if you are keen to help.

A special reminder to all Kindy group 2 parents and caregivers - you can also order lunch from Canteen every Friday! Don’t bother making yet another lunch, order before Friday 8.30am via Quickcliq.com.au and we will deliver it your child’s classroom!

Please also note that all canteen orders need to be placed via QuickCliq prior to 8.30am on Friday. Cash is not accepted.

Uniform Shop

The Uniform Shop is fully stocked!! Come and pay us a visit on Wednesday mornings for all your uniform requirements from 8.45am to 9.15am. P&C volunteers will be at the canteen hatch to assist you. If the shop is unattended, please wait as we may be delivering an order.

Order forms can be downloaded from the school website at http://scarboroughps.wa.edu.au/p-c/uniform-shop/.  E-mailed orders will be delivered to your child’s classroom.
