RICHMOND CHRISTIAN COLLEGE

TIDINGS - Term 1 Week 3 . 2021

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

If we have not love, we are nothing but a clanging cymbal…

It may be just me, but when life gets difficult and busy, I find it very easy to become very egocentric. My field of view is filled only with what I need, or my family needs. I start to forget, all too easily might I add, about helping others and thinking about life from other people’s point of view.

A couple of years ago now we finished building our tech shed and ran a fundraiser called Tools for Schools. We asked for some help to fill our Tech Shed with tools for the students, but also challenged people to match their donation to RCC with a donation to the Lighthouse Christian Academy in Zimbabwe. We were very blessed and filled our Tech Shed with wonderful tools; we also sent over $1,300 to LCA for their school’s buildings!

This week I received news from LCA updating us on how they have used this money to create a better learning environment for their kids. (Scroll down to see their report). As I read the report, I was humbled to not only see what our donations were able to achieve, but I was reminded of how blessed we are.

I am reminded that the truest test of our character and our faith is not just in the giving of money, but in the creation of real, honest and powerful relationships. The way we connect, support and journey with others is what truly makes a difference in the lives of those around us.

In 1 Corinthians 13 Paul is speaking to the Corinthian people, a very eclectic mix. He reminds them that though they may be gifted with many things, if they don’t have love as the foundations for their actions, they are merely a clanging cymbal, an empty noise and what they do has no lasting, positive impact.

It is our passion to ensure our students gain hold of this truth. During Vision Day this week with our emerging student leaders we were able to reinforce the truth that whilst their academic sporting or cultural achievements are important, the thing that will have the biggest impact on their community is the way they use the skills they are developing to love their community. This is what will truly build a community of purpose and hope.

As we continue into the year, the challenge in the midst of the difficult and disagreeable is to be able to look out, look up and continue have Jesus’ love as our foundation.

Good Tidings!

 Jonno

Thank you from Lighthouse Christian Academy

Please accept our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for your donation of Au$1,350-00 given to Our Neighbours Ministry for Lighthouse Christian Academy in Bulawayo Zimbabwe. We sincerely apologise that this thank you email is coming through to you all so late after your donation was made. For some who may not be aware, our school provides educational support to vulnerable children, some of whom have not had the privilege of being able to go to school. For some of these children their guardians were unable to pay school fees which resulted in them having to drop out and miss some years of their education. All of our children are grateful to be given an opportunity to learn again and with the support of folk like you we are able to provide them with this wonderful opportunity. Thank you for being a part of changing lives for children in Zimbabwe. Your contribution was used to do some much needed building repairs to our school which is situated on the outskirts of the Bulawayo City.  With the onset of the rainy season the water was finding it´s way into our classrooms from so many different angles.  Thankfully your provision of finance meant we could afford to get the roof repaired and the holes patched up, some window frame arm hinges fixed and tightened, glass panes replaced, and the patching up of the front wall.  The Covid-19 pandemic has upset our children´s learning as schools were deemed super-spreaders of the Corona Virus. During our two lockdown periods in April and August last year when our children were not allowed to attend school we had to lock up the premises and wait the lockdowns out. Unfortunately with no movement in the school an army of termite ants took up residence and fed off the wooden door and shelves in two of our rooms. We hope that in their eating out in our Library room they at least ingested some knowledge from the Encyclopaedia they destroyed. Your contribution also enabled us to get termite treatment down at the school and the eaten door and frame was also replaced.  Such building repairs and maintenance can be costly ventures and so we really do appreciate your donations which enabled all of this work to be done at Lighthouse. The building team were also able to patch up the front wall of the school building which makes it look much more presentable. Thank you for all of these things. We look forward to keeping in touch in 2021 and we hope that the Covid-19 pandemic has not been as disruptive for your learning thus far.  Thank you for all of your love and support and we hope the attached pictures gives a good idea of how much work was accomplished through your generosity. God bless you all

LEARNING THE RCC WAY

Student Leadership Vision Day

“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”

Benjamin Franklin.

On Thursday this week our 2021 student leadership group spent some time with Mr Simmons, Mrs Jane and Mrs Miller deliberately investing into our young leader’s character. It was exciting to afford them the time to dream and plan for the future of the school and their desired impact on its culture and growth.
