2021 - Term 3 Week 8

Acknowledgement of Country

We would like to acknowledge Goulburn as an important meeting place that was inhabited, at first contact with Europeans, by the Gundungurra and Ngunawal people who are the traditional custodians of this land. We would like to pay respect to Elders both past, present and future, also extending that respect to other Aboriginal people present today on the land in which we meet, work and live.

News from the South

Well hello to all our students and families. The staff at Goulburn South hope you are staying safe and well. I have heard from your teachers and they have informed me that you have been working hard and joining in with the daily zoom meetings. If you are experiencing difficulties connecting to Zoom or accessing your child's learning platform Seesaw or Google Classroom please ensure that your teacher is aware of this when they call. If you need to call the school however the office staff can notify your child's teacher and arrange for them to call you back. It is extremely important that your child connects with their teacher and class on a daily basis, maintaining their relationships is an important part of their well-being. It can also reassure them that everyone is doing the same things.During Week 9 (next week) everything will be the same as we remain under "stay at home orders" We will have the same minimal staffing for those students who cannot be educated at home - for example if you are an essential worker. All students will be supported by their teacher whilst learning from home. If you are working from home and your child can be educated at home - please keep them at home. By sticking to the restrictions imposed which are currently in place till midnight 10th September, and minimizing movement in the community we keep each other safe. When the current restrictions are reviewed and we are notified of the situation moving forward, we will keep our families updated via Skoolbag and Facebook

Further learning resources can be access via the following link:

*** Students of essential workers must not attend school if unwell, even with mild symptoms of COVID-19. Any person with any COVID-19 symptoms must be sent home and not return to school unless:

  • they have isolated for 10 days, when no medical certificate is available
  • they have a negative COVID-19 test result and are symptom free.

In circumstances where children have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms, a letter from their GP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY

We would like to take this opportunity to wish our dads, carers, granddads, pops, and the special male role models a special day on Sunday

Fathers Day

Library News

Book Week 2021 has been an interesting one for Goulburn South. The Book Parade and Fair has been postponed until we return to face-to-face schooling. This will give everyone a chance to create some amazing costumes and we will have an even better celebration when we return to school.

I hope many of you have enjoyed the online author talks as I have. Some wonderful author’s spoke about where they get their ideas from and the writing process they undertake when creating their books.

I also saw our students taking up the Book Week Reading Challenge. Students read with their siblings, pets and stuffed toys on a pile of pillows, under a blanket, on the lounge and we even had a pirate reading outside on the grass. Well done everyone.

Keep reading and enjoying Storybox Library and add the titles you read to your Premier’s Reading Challenge list.

Happy reading everyone. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

News from Mrs Leten

Goulburn South PS is committed to improving student learning outcomes in literacy and numeracy. As a High Impact Teacher (a HIT), I work with Years 3 to 6 students, who have been identified as likely to place in the top 2 bands of future NAPLAN Reading and Numeracy assessments.  I am particularly interested in introducing discussion activities from a recently completed international oracy training course. In this barrier activity, students from Year 3 are confidently taking turns and sharing information about a series of events in pictures. The students are using rich vocabulary on the topic of, ‘What impact does the introduced Indian Myna bird have on the native crimson Rosella bird?’

National Tree Day - 2nd August

On Monday 2nd August our school leaders hosted a fantastic School Tree day event to celebrate National Tree Day. After exploring big, yellow banksia flowers and seed pods on a tree near the office, our SRC members and two students from 3/O's Green Team listened to Mia, Joey, Cindy and Heidi, our school leaders. Their motivating speech was all about the important role that trees play in our school: feeding insects, cooling our playgrounds and classrooms, cleaning our air, giving oxygen and storing carbon. Check out the two newly planted banksias near the front gate of our school. Thank you to Goulburn Mulwaree Council for once again donating a banksia. We hope that it grows as well as the previous banksia that Council provided in 2019 in our Sensory Garden.

Jeans for Genes Day

Early in term three Goulburn South SRC were fundraising for Jeans for Genes Day. Students and staff showed their support by wearing jeans and donating a gold coin. The SRC are proud to advise that the school raised $125.00 for an extremely worthy cause. Thank you Goulburn South students.
