St Mary's Bulletin

Term 4 - Week 3 (29 October, 2021)

Dear St Mary's School Community

Value in Focus: Respect

We value others, their property, the environment and ourselves.

All Saints Day

All Saints' Day is dedicated to honour and commemorate the saints. It is also known as All Hallows' Day or the Feast of All Saints. It is observed yearly on November 1.  A saint is a person who is believed to be especially close to God. Some saints are prophets, or messengers of God. Others are healers, doers of good deeds, or martyrs. A martyr is someone who is killed for belonging to a religion.  Pre-primary will be leading us in Mass to commemorate All Saints Day on Monday, 1 November at 9.00am in the Church.  All are welcome to attend.

All Souls Day

All Souls' Day which is celebrated on November 2 every year is also known as the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed and the Day of the Dead. It's a day of prayer and remembrance and on All Souls' Day, people celebrate the lives and souls of those who have died.  The month of November is dedicated as a time of remembrance for all those that have died within our families, communities and beyond.

Year Two Reading at Mass

The Year Two class will be at reading at the 10.30am Mass on Sunday.  All are welcome to come attend.

World Educators Day

Today is World Educators Day in Australia.  This day is celebrated globally on October 5 (in the middle of school holidays) so we celebrate a little later across Australia.  It is a chance to recognise and celebrate the incredible contributions teachers have made and continue to make in school communities

At St Mary’s School we are blessed with wonderful educators and so the day is an opportunity to celebrate the teachers who are making, or have made, an impact on the lives of our students, our families and our school.

At Monday morning’s assembly, I asked all the students to made sure that they sincerely thanked their teachers for all they do, have done and will continue to do for them.  Teaching, like parenting I would imagine, is thankless and so it is nice to feel valued and gratitude every now and again.  Thank you to the P&F (and Wheatbelt Coffee Time) who organised a coffee voucher for all the staff!

GEMS

St Mary’s School is hosting GEMS on Monday and Tuesday and there will be fifteen or more colleagues from both CEWA and regional schools at our school – if you see them around be sure to make them feel welcome.

Specialist Room

Our Specialist Room is slowly taking shape.  The central wall has all but gone, the new ceiling is in the process of being installed, the walls are being prepared for painting and the floors are being prepared for new coverings to go in.

SAC

All families received information about the Annual School Community during the week.  We are seeking to fill three places on the School Advisory Council (SAC).  The SAC is established to support the Principal to fulfil their responsibilities in leading the Catholic Identity, Education, Community and Stewardship functions of the Catholic school in pursuit of CEWA's vision to be Christ-centred and child-focused.  If you have the skills, attributes and passion to contribute to St Mary's School in this way please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.

Merredin College Graduation

I was invited to (and attended) the Year 12 Graduation Ceremony at Merredin College last Friday evening.  This is one event outside the school calendar that I look forward to attending, it is nice to see these young men and women on the cusp of a new (sometimes uncertain) phase of their life as they move from adolescence and the certainty of the education system to adulthood and the unknown.  It also affirming to see those students who started their schooling at St Mary’s School being recognised for their achievements, skills and personal attributes.  Congratulations go to:

Panashe Mudimu:  2020 Dux and Les Last Scholarship

Year 12 Course Award Winners:  Jordi Smith, Ellie Downsborough, Kyrah Lane, Baileigh Rose Grant and Georgina Squire

Florence Scanlon Citizenship Award:  Baileigh Rose Grant

The Bankwest Award for Excellence in VET:  Ellie Downsborough

The Gerard Rennie Award – Most Consistent ATAR Student:  Jordi Smith

Table Tennis

Thank you to the P&F for purchasing a table tennis table for the school.  The table is on wheels – making it easy for the students to move it around.  A sincere thanks to Cam Gethin who had the not so easy task of putting the table together!

Pastoral Care

We welcome another baby to the St Mary's School community.  Congratulations to the Alberti Family on the arrival of Molly, a baby sister for Charlotte (Kindy) and Eva.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families,

Ms Adriana Coniglio

Principal

You came among us as a teacher, healer and saviour. On this World Teacher’s Day, bless your teachers Help them become even more joyful disciples and profound echoes of your wisdom, Bless our teachers with the gifts of Your truth, beauty and goodness. Bless them with integrity, so that they bring Your words to life. Bless them with courage and perseverance to walk the paths You have laid out.
