From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

WELCOME BACK for term 3!  I hope everyone had an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful crisp sunny days during the 2 weeks.

Term 3 is a very important term for learning growth.  Hopefully we won't have any unexpected interruptions.

I need to emphasise that should your children have any cold or flu like symptoms they not come to school.  It is recommended that they have a COVID test even if contact with an infectious person is unlikely.  Thank you to the families who did the right thing and isolated on returning from hot spots interstate.

I'm looking forward to attending our Wellness Day on Saturday July 31st.  It will be a great opportunity to recharge energy levels and focus on physical and mental health.  Then our Aussie Trivia night is back on for August 20 so I urge you to get your team organised well in advance to secure a table.

We have our term 3 working bee next weekend.  This working bee is crucial to being prepared for the renovations and new building project beginning next term.  If you are book in please come along and if you have some spare time and would like to be involved please let Janine know that you will be attending.  We have many structures in the passive play area to relocate.

We wish Aiden Dwyer well today as he represents St. Pat's in the Regional Cross Country competition at Deakin University.

Kind regards,

Olga Lyons, Principal

Sustainability News

Beach Monitoring

This morning our sustainability leaders, Jorja and Andrew, along with a new beach monitoring team, went over to South Beach to take some measurements of the sand levels. We were assisted by Nick and Natasha of the Port Fairy Coastal Group.Whilst the data hasn't come back yet, we did notice that there was less sand around the post from which we take our measurements due to the wild weather and big tides we have had recently. The Beach Monitoring Group will deliver a presentation at an assembly later this term.

Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant

St Patrick's has been successful with our application for a 2021 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant. Our grant money is to be used to upgrade our vegetable patch with new seedlings and plants and to create a new bush tucker garden in our school. We will use the gardens, plants and produce grown in our garden as part of Paddy's Pantry and our science and health programs.

Our school is one of 1,609 primary schools and early learning centres throughout Australia receiving a Woolworths Junior Landcare grant to help grow our next generation of environmental champions.

The grants are being funded with a 10c contribution from each sale of the Woolworths Bag for Good at full price, which was launched in 2018 when Woolworths went single-use plastic bag free.

The children and teachers are looking forward to working and learning from this project and we’ll keep you updated on the results.

Head Lice

The school has been notified of a case of head lice. It is a timely reminder for parents to check their child's head. If you child does have head lice, your child must be treated prior to coming to school. It is also very important that in 7 days time you treat your child again. The most effective way of controlling head lice after the treatment is to use a lice comb to comb through your child's hair to ensure all eggs and lice are removed.
