Milsons Island Camp - Hayal (5/6M) – Yellow Group
The Stage 3 Milsons Island camp. Wow! What an experience that was. So many other students attended the camp however, I feel very privileged to have been chosen to tell you my perspective and what I enjoyed about the Milson Island camp.
On Wednesday the 23rd of August, Stage 3 left to go to camp. To be able to leave on time, students had to arrive at school just after 7am. Don’t worry, I know what you are thinking, “how early was that?”
The bus ride, well from my experience the bus ride took a very long time. We started singing and talking to each other and before we knew it we had arrived at Kangaroo Point wharf where the ferry picked us up with another school. Bidwill Public School, boarded first and we sat on the top deck of the ferry. It was amazing and it was a great experience.
Then ferry docked at Milsons Island and as we got off the boat we also grabbed our bags and suitcases and waited for instructions. Our main bags were placed on the tractor. Luke was one of the many instructors on Milsons Island. So Luke told us all there was a hill we needed to walk up. Let me tell you, the hill looked small but wow it was very steep! In the end we all reached the top.
We sat in an assembly area and were told the rules and expectations. Then, we were told our cabin group, Lorikeet, the boys were Kookaburras and our activity groups. Yellow with Ms Palenzuela and Mrs Kellie Pace and Blue with Ms Kahn and Ms Yard. I personally think I had the best group, the Yellow group.
We completed so many activities such as kayaking, archery, orienteering and rope challenges. My personal favourite activity was kayaking because my partner, Jayrite and I Jayrite had great communication and we had a lot of fun. I hope I go there again soon.
Cailyce (5/6P) – Blue Group
Our first day at Milson Island we had to go to the assembly area were we had to meet and talk about what we needed. We were split into two activity groups. I was in the blue group, on our first day, the Blue Group did archery and orienteering and the Yellow Group did kayaking. We also had to do kitchen duties like breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had to serve the students, set up the tables and then clean up after the meal. The Lorikeets (girls) had lunch duty on our first day and the Kookaburras (boys) were on dinner duty.
The next day was my favourite day because our group (Blue) did kayaking and bush walking. We were having so much fun at 7am, then we got ready to go to the dining hall and have breakfast. After breakfast, we waited for the teachers at the play area where there were tennis and basketball courts, playground equipment and a volleyball field! This is where we went during free time, which is just after our activities finished and before a meal was served.
During kayaking, we all had to sit down listen to what Ricky had to say she was one of the people that worked there. She taught us how to kayak and then after all the talking we had to get 6 kayaks out and onto the sand where we had to put the kayak into the water. Those not kayaking were set a challenge, we had to try stack 17 crates and the closes we got to 17 was only 14 crates high.
After lunch, we went bushwalking with Luke. We all had fun, we got to climb and go through caves and on our bush walk we saw seals! We went down to our spot where we had our campfire and made damper. We learnt that Milson Island used to be a hospital and was also a prison! We learnt a lot of historical information about Milson Island. After dinner, we did our night activities. The night activities were my favourite bit about camp and my favourite night game was “ant hospital”. The third day we had to stay in the dining hall because it was raining really hard, we did trivia and indoor challenges. After lunch we boarded the ferry back to Kangaroo point, rode the bus back to Bidwill PS and that was our camp at Milson Island.
