Principal's Address

Good afternoon everyone. The past week has been quite difficult for many NSW residents in flood affected areas. Although the Hunter appears to have been spared the worst of the heavy rain, there are still many people adversely impacted by the weather conditions. I do hope that you and your family are OK and that your homes are holding up despite the persistence of the rain.  In a school our size, there is likely to be some with family or friends living in areas hardest hit by the floods. Again, I hope they are getting good support and that their homes remain safe. Hopefully tomorrow’s forecast is accurate and that the sun will return to start drying everything out.

At school, we have fared quite well. So far, we have had just a few minor roof leaks and a lot of water washing across pathways. Thankfully, there’s been no medium or large tree branches down and no flooding. It continues to be safe for children to be at school and in class getting on with their learning. The students actually seem to enjoy a few days of ‘wet weather’ and being indoors for breaks, even if the teachers are a little less enthusiastic.

With the holidays approaching, a few parents have contacted me to ask about the possibility of our OSHC provider, Camp Australia, running vacation care on our site. Unfortunately, they need to be licenced and registered to do this and the current OSHC contract, does not include this registration. I have had preliminary discussions with Schools Infrastructure about how we could initiate a vacation care program through the OSHC provider, but there are a number of steps that must be completed before approval can be given. In the meantime, Camp Australia do run vacation care on other sites and I have been advised that any Lambton PS family can sign up and book your child in to one of the other sites, subject to availability. To find out more, please visit https://www.campaustralia.com.au/families/rocketeers to find out more.

Hope you can stay warm, dry and safe until the rain eases. Have a good week.

The Big Vegie Crunch

Last week our students participated in Vegie Week and the ‘Big Vegie Crunch’ on Thursday. It was great to see the variety of vegetables brought in to school for Crunch’n’Sip in the classrooms. Please continue to look for opportunities to substitute some vegetables in for fruit in our daily crunch’n’sip breaks. We need our students to keep eating more vegetables. Thanks to the canteen team for also planning and providing some yummy snacks as well. Here’s some photos from the Big Vegie Crunch:

Updated Family Details

All families will today receive a summary sheet of the information and contact details currently stored in the school system for your child/ren. Maintaining accurate information is crucial to ensure good communication between school and families. We ask all families to take a moment and review the summary sheet provided, making changes manually as required to the sheet before returning it to school. If your details are correct, please simply sign the summary and return it to the office. Your assistance is appreciated.

Rescheduled Cross Country

With the current rainfall and sodden ground it is quite difficult to predict when the grass will be dry enough for us to safely run a rescheduled cross country carnival. The rescheduled cross country will most likely take place at school and we will utilise some of the land in the Armstrong Reserve behind the school to create a suitable course. At this early stage, and dependent on conditions between now and then, we have pencilled in next Tuesday 30th March as a potential day to try again; with a start time mostly likely after 12:00 pm. More information will be sent out on Skoolbag later this week when firm plans can be made. It will still be our intention to have spectators join us for the cross country with a covid safety plan in place. Stay tuned for more details shortly.

Parents and carers, please be advised that the last day of Term 1 is Thursday 1st April. The Term 1 school holiday period will commence on Good Friday 2nd April.
