Weekly Prayer Reflection

True Food for our hunger.

We know so much about healthy eating and yet our society is plagued by the results of unhealthy eating: obesity, anorexia and excessive emphasis on body image.  Let’s just consider the issue of body image.  People will choose what they eat not according to whether they want or need it but because of how someone else will judge their body at a later date! This is crazy, but it is also common.  Recent studies have shown that people who eat slowly and take time to enjoy what they eat are less likely to be obese.  In other words they focus on what they want and need and enjoy that.  They do not mindlessly eat food they particularly don’t want or need.  A good way to balance our eating habits is to ask ‘Do I really want or need this?’ and if the answer is ‘Yes’ to take the time to enjoy it.

Jesus used food as a sign of our relationship with him.  Deep down while we hunger for God’s love, we pursue experiences and things that we neither want nor need, things that make us unhappy.  Jesus so desires to fulfil our true needs and wants that he even offers himself in the Eucharist, his Body and Blood given under the form of Bread and Wine. We need to often stop and ask ourselves about the things we do, ‘Will this fulfil the deep hunger in my heart?’

Loving Father, you give us bread from heaven – your own Son Jesus.  Give us the wisdom of the Spirit to open ourselves to him and fulfil the hunger of our hearts.  We ask this in his name, confident that you will hear us.

Parent Feedback

As part of our ongoing commitment to continuously improving the school, we believe it is critical to seek each parent and guardian’s opinion on a range of issues relating to St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Wandal. Your feedback is very important to us as we continue to build a successful school and strengthen our reputation as an ‘educator of choice’.

As such, we have engaged the professional services of MYP Corporation (MYPCorp) to undertake a strictly private and confidential School Results Survey on our behalf. The survey should take approximately 10 - 15 minutes and will need to be completed online between 7/6/21 and 18/6/21. There are no right or wrong answers and we ask that you respond honestly to each statement.

Please note that this survey will be confidential. No member of the leadership team at St Joseph’s Wandal will have access to your individual responses. We will be provided with a summary of collated results only.

MYPCorp will undertake the following process to ensure anonymity:

1. Parents and guardians will be emailed individual survey logins.

2. Results will be collated externally.

3. A summary of collated results will be provided to the school leadership team.

On the survey start date, survey instructions and a personalised login link will be emailed to all parents. You will continue to receive friendly reminders during the survey period until you have submitted the survey.

If you do not receive your survey instructions on the survey start date, please check your spam and junk email folders before contacting St Joseph’s Wandal.

While we strongly encourage you to participate, the survey is not compulsory. If you decide that you do not want to complete the survey, simply click ‘Unsubscribe’ in the instruction or reminder email.

Thank you for your assistance in helping to shape the future direction of St Joseph’s Wandal.

Dogs at school

Please refrain from bringing your dogs onto the school site. This is a Workplace Health and Safety requirement. We have needed to remind a number of families of this requirement in the last couple of weeks. I thank you for waiting outside the school gates with your leashed dogs for the safety and wellbeing of all.

Year 5 invitation from The Cathedral College

Parents of all students in Year 5 should have received a letter earlier this week, inviting the children to an upcoming visit to the College. If you did not receive this letter, please check your child’s school bag and then contact the office.

Hairstyles

A reminder about appropriate hairstyles for school.

Hair is to be neatly groomed, the student’s own natural colour and, if reaching the collar of the uniform shirt, then tied back away from the face with a navy, yellow or white ribbon, scrunchie, or hairband. This rule is for all students, regardless of gender. Some boys are embracing a return of the 'mullet' style - if your hair touches your collar then your hair is tied back please.

There are to be no extremes in style or cut. I would suggest that primary school is not the place to be making fashion statements. If doubt exists with a style of hair, parents should check with the Principal before having a style change.

Athletics Carnival - 1 week away

The 2021 Athletics Carnival will be held at Brosnan Oval, Emmaus College for ALL students in Prep - Year 6, next Wednesday,  9 June (please note changed location). Please indicate via the E-form on the Skoolbag App by Friday 4 June, if your children require bus transport to and from Emmaus College. If we do not receive a response from your family, we will assume you will arrange your own transport and the bus will not have seats allocated for your children. Field Events finals for Years 4- 6 students will also be held on this day.

Children are to wear their sports uniforms to our Athletics Carnival. A plain, house-coloured polo shirt may also be worn if preferred. Students will need their school hats, sunscreen, lots of water and lunch (pack a little extra, our children get very hungry on days such as this).

  • All students will be expected to sit in their supervised House coloured tents on the day. Separate areas will be allocated for parents/carers' seating. Spectators will be required to sign in as per COVID19 requirements.
  • If you are spectating, please ensure you bring a hat and a chair.
  • Orders for the Sausage Sizzle may be made via Flexischools ahead of time (this is our preferred method) but if stocks allow, some items will be available for purchase, by cash on the day. Sausages on bread, chips, soft drinks and bottled drinks will be on our menu for the day.
  • A coffee van will be on site from 8:00am to 9:30am and then 11:15am to 12:00noon.
  • Any  students not arriving or leaving by bus, must report to the Administration tent to be signed in and out. Some students competing in early events (eg. the 800m and 200m at 8am) will be required to be at the fields earlier than the bus. These children may report directly to Mrs Jenkinson at the field at 7.45am, ready to run at 8.00am.
  • Students will not be permitted to leave with other families unless prior written permission has been provided to the school staff.
  • Mrs Fishburn will be remaining at school on the day to 'man' phones, so can pass on any messages.
  • An e-form has been set up for parents of 10, 11 and 12 year olds who wish to nominate for the 'before school' events of 800m and 200m. Please complete this by Friday 3pm.
  • Our younger children's events will be completed in the morning. Any Preps remaining at the fields at the completion of thier events will return to school, by bus, with their teachers at 11.30am.

Prayer Reflection - Gospel Focus

We believe that God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

When you make the Sign of the Cross, what words do you say? You will hear these words in the gospel reading today.

"Jesus told his disciples to baptise people in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit." These are still the words used to baptise people today.

God the Father, christ our saviour, Spirit of Love. You call us to share in your lifea nd love; One God, three Persons. Amen.

Year 2W Reconciliation Prayer Assembly

Please join Year 2W for prayer this Friday as they reflect on the history and journey of healing relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Year 4E will lead prayer on Friday 11 June.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week occurs every year from 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all of us as we move forward, creating a community strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

For those interested, click on the Behind The News (BTN) to view why Reconciliation Week and how some children celebrate it.  https://www.abc.net.au/btn/classroom/reconciliation-week-2021/13350912

Would you like to receive the Sacrament of Penance, Confirmation and Eucharist?

If you are interested in participating in the Sacramental Journey, which will commence in Term 3, please contact the Rockhampton Cathedral Parish of St Joseph on 4927 6744 to register your interest.
