From the Principal

Thanks to The Balmain Bunch!

Growing up, I watched The Brady Bunch 'religiously' (as they say)...my recollections of the show was of a family, a bunch of 'Bradys' and their housekeeper, Alice, who worked collectively as a team...

Fast forward to 2021, where this week's K-6 Athletics Carnival saw The Balmain Bunch come together in true team spirit!

Behind the scenes, Mr Carlton was at the helm with the overall organisation, with Ms Karstrom overseeing K-2. Jenni, in the office, was organising the money side of things, as well as transportation. Staff assisted with equipment and last-minute preparation before the day, with Mr Baumann setting up at Birchgrove Oval in the morning, as well as a number of parent helpers driving the equipment across.

Our teachers ensured all students had permission for the day, as well as assisting with any and every carnival job! Our non-teaching staff were also pitching in and doing what was needed.

We had parent helpers on the field to assist with extra jobs, such as timekeeping. Socially-distanced spectators supported our students and community. Even the weather was on our side!

How fabulous to be able to 'walk on set' and see all the scenes playing out before my very eyes - cheering, racing, activities - all going on simultaneously! Check out our Instagram highlights...

A HUGE THANK YOU goes to The Balmain Bunch! Thanks to the teachers and staff, our parent and carer helpers, as well as our community for supporting the day! We couldn't do it without any of you!

Important messages...

***In case of urgent/important communication, notifications via the Skoolbag app on your phone will keep you informed***

To ensure you receive all communication via SkoolBag, please have the app downloaded on your phone, with the notifications turned ON.

Although the school pushes out notifications via the app and email, there may be times when an important message may be missed as emails may sometimes not be checked regularly.

An earlier visit from the DoE's Work Health & Safety advisor included a discussion around sending out urgent messages to our families, in case of emergency (although, hopefully, this will never have to happen).

The advice was to encourage all our parents and carers to have the SkoolBag app installed on phones, to ensure an instant channel of communication, especially in case of an emergency.

If you need assistance downloading the app, please see below?...

Installation instructions for parents downloading and using the Skoolbag school communication app - get it on your Apple & Android mobile devices.

Do you have the SkoolBag app on your phone?

***ALL VISITORS (EXCLUDING DROP-OFF & PICK-UP) TO THE SCHOOL MUST GO DIRECTLY TO THE OFFICE, CHECK-IN USING THE SERVICE NSW COVID SAFE CHECK-IN QR CODE, AS WELL AS THE SCHOOL'S CHECK-IN PROCEDURE***

Current COVID-19 advice

Feeling unwell?

As per the current NSW Health and DoE guidelines, Students and staff with flu-like symptoms will need to provide a copy of a negative COVID-19 test result before being permitted to return to school.

Symptoms can include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore/scratchy throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Loss of taste
  • Loss of smell

Other reported symptoms can include:

  • Fatigue
  • Runny nose
  • Muscle pain
  • Joint pain
  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Loss of appetite

Should your child present with any of the above symptoms, please arrange for a COVID-19 test. A 24-hour home pick-up COVID-19 test can be organised by going to the following link:

https://covidtestsydney.com.au/

Once you have received your negative COVID-19 test results, please send a copy to the school via email.

From the Office

Please be specific when notifying the school of your child's absence. An 'unwell' email will result with a COVI-19 symptoms/testing reply, as per the current guidelines above. To avoid this, especially if the absence is NOT COVID-19 symptoms related, a simple explanation, such as, 'X has a tummy ache' will be helpful. Thank you.

If your family details, circumstances have changed, ie: address, mobile numbers, separations, court orders etc, could you kindly email the school so records can be updated. This will ensure correct people are contacted and all relevant information is passed on correctly.

1/2 ALTRUISM!!!

This term 1/2A has dived headfirst into our NESTigations project, all about animals! We have been focusing on informative writing and have learned all about reptiles and amphibians (Ms Cooper's favourite)! We really really enjoyed our excursion to Taronga Zoo, learning to write reports and, finally, creating models and habitats for our chosen creatures.
