Dear Families

During the week I had a call from a caring grandparent in our community. He shared with me a statement that his grandson had made that he felt like this lockdown would never end. It brings to mind the importance of us being truly present for our children. Their worries and concerns are very real for them and it is important that we listen and respond to them with reassurance. We are currently bombarded with news from around the world which causes all of us at times to despair. Our children have young and impressionable minds. They need to be protected from the constant flow of negative press. We need to offer them light, hope and reassurance that this will come to an end at some point. It is important to help them experience positive moments in the safety of their homes and to have conversations of joy and positivity. Remember to turn off the radio and television and limit the amount of negative press our young children are being exposed to. Enjoy time together outside. Make happy memories as a family by spending quality time together and living in the moment. I have shared with you today a wonderful podcast that I thought you may enjoy. It is a reflection on parenting and highlights the invaluable work of all those incredible people who teach our children. To our parents and teachers I salute you all and give thanks for your guidance and love of our most precious children.

Prayers for the people of Afghanistan

It is hard to ignore the news coming out of Afghanistan and even harder to watch the images of desperate people fleeing for their life. The people of Afghanistan need our thoughts and prayers. And so I ask you to pray for the people and their homeland Afghanistan.

God of all Peoples,

We seek your spirit of hope and solace for the People of Afghanistan. They have suffered greatly over these many decades of war and violence. They struggle each day to make their lives full of your love and compassionate justice, only to be cruelled with further blows to their freedoms and liberty. Be with every family in this time of crisis and uncertainty. Be with each person as they face times of displacement from their homes and dislocation from their lives, this time of loss of educational opportunities and ways of fulfilling their dreams for a better life and society. Guide them out of this valley of tears to a time where You can bring safety and peace to all their lives.

Amen

QR Code Check-In and Face Masks

Everyone over the age of 12 years of age (with the exception of our enrolled students) is required to wear a face mask both inside and outside as per Victorian Government COVID restrictions.

Please note that due to the increase in the number of children being infected with the virus, there has been a recommendation from our Chief Medical Officer that all school age children wear a mask.  It is not mandated that primary school age children wear a mask, however we will support children to wear a mask if you believe this is something they can manage.

If you are entering any school buildings it is a Victorian Government mandate that you check in via our QR code. We are limiting access to buildings for our families until we have further easing of restrictions. We are also asking families not to gather before or after school. Whilst this is hard as we enjoy being together hopefully our caution will keep everyone in our community safe and hopefully able to gather once more in the not too distant future. Thankyou for supporting us to implement our COVID safe plan by observing these protocols.

Stay home when unwell

The most important action our school community can take to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 is to ensure that any unwell staff and students remain at home and get tested, even with the mildest of symptoms.

Students with underlying conditions (such as hay fever or asthma)

If a student has persistent symptoms due to an underlying condition such as hay fever or asthma, the student should still be tested for COVID-19 if they develop symptoms that are different to or worse than their usual symptoms. Students whose symptoms are clearly typical for their underlying condition can continue to attend school. Parents/carers should also consider getting a medical certificate from the child’s treating GP to confirm that it is safe for them to attend school with persistent symptoms that may overlap with some of the symptoms of COVID-19 such as cough or runny nose.

Young children with persistent mild symptoms

For younger children (in Prep to Year 2) who have had a negative COVID-19 test that was taken after they developed symptoms, the decision about return to school should be made in conjunction with the child’s treating GP. If the GP is satisfied the child has recovered from their acute illness, is otherwise well and does not need a repeat COVID-19 test, the child can return even if they are not completely free of symptoms. Any worsening of symptoms will require review and repeat COVID-19 testing, if considered appropriate by the doctor. Students with a negative COVID-19 test whose symptoms have completely resolved do not need a medical certificate to return to school.
