A warm and wonderful welcome back to all our new and existing families! Even though we were flung into COVID restrictions our amazing staff and community rallied together to ensure our first day went incredibly smooth for the children.
We also warmly welcome Mr David Lee who is teaching the amazing Room 8, Mrs Kerrin Marginis teaching the fabulous Room 6 and Mrs Wendy Perry the spectacular Room 10. We are privileged to have them as part of our team.
CPS is well known for its academic performance. For the last 3 years, we have worked solidly on reviewing our curriculum and how we cater for the individual needs of our students. We have developed whole school evidence-based teaching and learning processes to ensure we are providing a well balanced and challenging learning environment for all students. As a consequence, we have been awarded a ‘Recognition of Academic Excellence 2021” by the Director General of Education. A huge congratulations go to the staff for the exceptional quality of teaching and the Curriculum Leadership teams for the expert skills and knowledge in driving positive change.
As you are aware the COVID-19 situation in WA is an unknown quantity. At the Department and school level, we are continually modifying and adapting our COVID-19 planning to changes and directions as they arise. While we are well prepared for any sudden changes to schooling we are acutely aware that these can only be implemented well with parent support and understanding.
In light of new Education Department guidelines around school gatherings and/or events, unfortunately, the P&C Community Picnic scheduled for Sunday 20 February has had to be cancelled. The P&C Committee is working behind the scenes to come up with some creative ways to keep the community connected, so stay tuned.
To ensure we can support further safety measures for the children, staff and yourselves, we kindly invite you to continue to wear masks when on school grounds or if possible drop and collect your children from the front of the school. With the current changes sent out via Skoolbag this morning, I encourage you to read all communication sent out as we are seeing very quick changes to school operations.
Traffic Wardens not covering our crosswalks continue to be a concern. While we endeavour to cover these, as employees of the Department there are significant occupational Safety and Health issues for staff as it is out of the Department's jurisdiction, it is the Police who manage this. There is an urgent need for more traffic wardens. If any Parents/Grandparents are interested in becoming a Traffic Warden they can contact the Children’s Crossings Unit direct on 6274 8731. It is a paid position that does not affect a pension too much. It would be highly recommended that any potential candidate on a pension contact Centrelink to have a chat. The current pay rate is around $25.58 per hour - two hours per day/five days per week.
Many thanks to the parents who have been supporting the before and after school rules when driving through the school, Kiss n Drop and parking. There are still issues occurring with the corner car park (Cromarty/Pearson), please do not park behind other cars or areas that block the free flow of traffic. Please be courteous and considerate of others.
Stay safe, take care
