School Values: Respect, Responsibility, Creativity, Integrity, Teamwork

Principal's Report

Dear parents and carers,

Activity and Camp Week

Last week the school was a hive of activity, and I would like to thank all the teachers, parents and school staff who contributed to making the week a successful one for our students.  We seemed to dodge most of the weather somehow and pulled off a fun and engaging week for the students.

2022 School Captains and Student Leaders

Each year in term four the Year Five students work through a student leadership preparation program and complete several tasks where they identify and apply for leadership roles across the school.  The experience is quite rigorous, particularly for the school captain positions.  The roles typically include a written application and in the case of the school captains, there is a formal interview process.  I was thrilled this year that there has been strong interest from our Year Five students, and we have selected our 2022 Year Six leaders.  Congratulations to all the students for the effort you put into this process.  To all the business owners, HR managers and employers out there, look out for these young leaders in a few years’ time, there is some very high-quality young people coming your way soon.  The quality of the applications was exceptional and was evidence of a very mature group of young leaders.

I really value giving these young leaders an authentic approach to lead and influence their school and we’re constantly trying to improve a strength our approach to this.

Visual Arts Teacher

I would like to congratulate Virginia Tulloch on her appointment as the new Visual Arts teachers at Macedon Primary School.  Ginny has been working here as a CRT for 2021 and brings with her a wealth of knowledge and a vibrant and engaging approach.  We’re excited to have her as a part of the team and look forward to the opportunities that she will create for our students.

End of Year School Events and Vaccination Requirements

There are several end-of-year school events where we can now open to fully vaccinated visitors on the school site.  These include the Tabloid Sports now postponed to 9:30am Wednesday 15 December,  Billy cart races now postponed to 2pm Wednesday 15 December, the Year Six Graduation Evening, Tuesday 14 December at 6pm evening and the end of year final assembly, Friday 17 December at 1:30pm.

We can have fully vaccination adults at these events, and we will be checking your vaccination status upon arrival, please have your green tick ready to show us at either the gates or entry doors.

A Splash of Colour

We have recently added the final touches to the classroom painting jobs with large classroom numbers being installed in the main building and on the portables.  We also now have a rainbow fence.  The fence was a result of some fire risk reduction treatment given to the retaining walls near the JCB, they have been painted with a fire-retardant paint.  When the DET contractor asked me what colour I wanted the fence after the fire-retardant paint was applied and told me I could have any Dulux colour I wanted I jumped at the chance to add some colour to our playground.  We have also had the “welcome to Macedon Primary School” sign installed in the Front Office along with the peer voted sun competition winning design by Olive S.

There are further works planned for the summer break including further painting works in the student toilets, Room 10 and 11 portable classrooms and the staff room wing of the main building.  We are getting closer to the final design for the Library Learning Hub being completed and expect construction to begin in early 2022. The northern boundary fence is planned to be replaced as well.  There is also the continuation of the retaining wall and fence works in between the oval and the basketball court and some large fire risk reduction pruning and tree lopping scheduled.

Kind regards and Sampai jumpa (until next time)

Matt Forrest

From the office

*Important* Money Owed to Families / Outstanding Charges

Due to the cancellation of several events this year, many families have monies sitting in their account. Thank you to those families who returned the note indicating how these funds were to be processed (i.e. donated to MPS, refunded or credited to the family account). If you have not already done so, please advise in writing ASAP how you would like your money processed. Statements were emailed to families last week, however if you are unsure whether you have money owed to you, please don't hesitate to contact Julie in the office to discuss.

Also, some families have charges still outstanding which we request are paid by the end of the school year (e.g. Essential Learning Items, the 3/4 and 5/6 camps held this week, prior sports events, etc). Again, if you are unsure if this relates to you, please contact Julie.

Lunch Orders

We encourage students to put their lunch orders in the tubs at school. If parents do put the lunch orders in directly at Red Door, can you please ensure the bag is clearly marked "Macedon Primary" and the correct class is written. The cut off time to drop lunch orders at Red Door is 10:00am.

Collection of Students

If you need to collect your child from school early, can you please email macedon.ps@education.vic.gov.au or call the office on 5426 1518 to advise. With the children participating in outdoor education and possibly being over at Middle Gully it is a great help to have advance notice. Our recess starts at 11:00am - 11:30am and lunchtime is 1:00pm to 2:00pm, if you can endeavour to pick up at these times, it limits the interruption to class time.

Facemasks in the school

Visitors are now allowed back in the school buildings, we ask that all visitors people sign in using the QR code and wear a mask inside. Masks are no longer required outside.

It has been great to see the students wearing their facemasks to school.  We encourage students to bring their own facemasks to school, however, if their mask becomes damaged or lost we do have some supplies here in the office.

Students feeling unwell

Students are required to stay at home if they are feeling unwell. Even the mildest of flu-like symptoms should be followed up with a COVID19 test. Students who present with or develop flu-like symptoms at school will be isolated at school and sent home. If your child vomits at, they must stay at home for at least 24 hours.

Tabloid Sports - Rescheduled - 15th December

Due to the wet and cold weather this morning, we decided to reschedule to Tabloid Sport morning to next Wednesday the 15th of December from 9:30am - 11:00am.

The Tabloid sports is a house vent, so children are asked to wear house colours.

There will be egg and spoon races, bean bag throwing, hurdles and many other fun activities.

Parents are welcome to come along to watch (or help). You must be doubled vaccinated.

Thanks, Mr O

Remember to be SunSmart

With the change of seasons we remind all students to please wear their hats when they are outside. UV radiation cannot be seen or felt , can be reflected off surfaces, can pass through light clouds and varies in intensity across the year (it is highest in Victoria from mid-August to the end of April).

At lunchtime and recess we ask that children seek shade, slip on protective clothing, slap on a sun protective hat, slop on some sunscreen and slide on some sunglasses!

Hats are available to purchase from the Beleza Store in Gisborne
