Dear parents and carers,
Activity and Camp Week
Last week the school was a hive of activity, and I would like to thank all the teachers, parents and school staff who contributed to making the week a successful one for our students. We seemed to dodge most of the weather somehow and pulled off a fun and engaging week for the students.
2022 School Captains and Student Leaders
Each year in term four the Year Five students work through a student leadership preparation program and complete several tasks where they identify and apply for leadership roles across the school. The experience is quite rigorous, particularly for the school captain positions. The roles typically include a written application and in the case of the school captains, there is a formal interview process. I was thrilled this year that there has been strong interest from our Year Five students, and we have selected our 2022 Year Six leaders. Congratulations to all the students for the effort you put into this process. To all the business owners, HR managers and employers out there, look out for these young leaders in a few years’ time, there is some very high-quality young people coming your way soon. The quality of the applications was exceptional and was evidence of a very mature group of young leaders.
I really value giving these young leaders an authentic approach to lead and influence their school and we’re constantly trying to improve a strength our approach to this.

I would like to congratulate Virginia Tulloch on her appointment as the new Visual Arts teachers at Macedon Primary School. Ginny has been working here as a CRT for 2021 and brings with her a wealth of knowledge and a vibrant and engaging approach. We’re excited to have her as a part of the team and look forward to the opportunities that she will create for our students.

We can have fully vaccination adults at these events, and we will be checking your vaccination status upon arrival, please have your green tick ready to show us at either the gates or entry doors.
A Splash of Colour
We have recently added the final touches to the classroom painting jobs with large classroom numbers being installed in the main building and on the portables. We also now have a rainbow fence. The fence was a result of some fire risk reduction treatment given to the retaining walls near the JCB, they have been painted with a fire-retardant paint. When the DET contractor asked me what colour I wanted the fence after the fire-retardant paint was applied and told me I could have any Dulux colour I wanted I jumped at the chance to add some colour to our playground. We have also had the “welcome to Macedon Primary School” sign installed in the Front Office along with the peer voted sun competition winning design by Olive S.
There are further works planned for the summer break including further painting works in the student toilets, Room 10 and 11 portable classrooms and the staff room wing of the main building. We are getting closer to the final design for the Library Learning Hub being completed and expect construction to begin in early 2022. The northern boundary fence is planned to be replaced as well. There is also the continuation of the retaining wall and fence works in between the oval and the basketball court and some large fire risk reduction pruning and tree lopping scheduled.
Kind regards and Sampai jumpa (until next time)
Matt Forrest
