2021 - Term 3 Week 4

Acknowledgement of Country

We would like to acknowledge Goulburn as an important meeting place that was inhabited, at first contact with Europeans, by the Gundungurra and Ngunawal people who are the traditional custodians of this land. We would like to pay respect to Elders both past, present and future, also extending that respect to other Aboriginal people present today on the land in which we meet, work and live.

News from the South

Welcome to Week 4 of Term 3. We have had some real wintry weather over the past three weeks since returning to school and encourage our students to ensure they are wearing their winter school uniform, school  jumpers and if they have one a school colour beanie.

We are still under Level 2 Limited Restrictions (see table below) and following the  Department of Education guidelines. We need to be vigilant with staff and students who are unwell.

Staff and students must not attend work or school if unwell, even with mild symptoms of COVID-19. Any person with any COVID-19 symptoms must be sent home and not return to school unless:

  • they have isolated for 10 days, when no medical certificate is available
  • they have a negative COVID-19 test result and are symptom free.

In circumstances where children or staff have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms, a letter from their GP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test.

As we continue to monitor COVID 19 restrictions we will determine on a week by week basis which activities and events will continue.

With this in mind we have regretfully cancelled our Year 5/6 camp at Broken Bay. Families have been notified and letters sent home with a refund form for all money paid to be refunded. If you have a student who has been affected by the cancellation of camp, please return the paperwork for refund as soon as possible so we can commence the process of issuing refunds.

Weather and extremely wet grounds have caused the rescheduling of the District Athletics Carnival at Hudson Park. The district event was to take place on Friday 6th August, but again has been postponed till Wednesday 8th September. Permission notes will be re-issued closer to the new date.

This week we have celebrated Plant a Tree Day. Goulburn Mulwaree Council have kindly donated a Banskia Tree for the students to plant. We have also planted two more Banksia trees in the timber boxes that Mr Hazelgrove our General Assistant has cleverly built.

Olympics at Goulburn South

3O News

3/O have been celebrating the Olympic Games with their very own Potato Olympic Games. Each day students and their (potato) Olympian have participated in a different Olympic Event. The events have been Distance, Diving, Gymnastics, Spinning and the Velodrome. The Potato Olympic Games have been a huge success with students sharing their learning and success with family and friends on their Seesaw journal.

We have also spent the last few weeks deep in discussion on ways we can make our world a better place for all.  We are now ready to write a persuasive announcement outlining our views on the subject.

P & C News

Welcome back to term 3.

The P and C have several fundraising activities for this term. Firstly we will be having a Pie Drive, order forms will be sent home in the next few weeks.

We are also participating in the Crazy Camel fundraiser. We ran this fundraiser back in 2019 and it was extremely successful. This fundraiser involves having your childs' artwork printed into calendars, tea towels, greeting cards etc. These items are then available for purchase. We  will be running this one in the second half of term 3.

Due to a change in circumstances the Canteen will be opening for Freaky Fridays, whenever possible. Themed meal deals available for lunch only. We will not be opening for the morning munchies break. This Friday will be a Hot Dog Meal Deal day. Please ensure that all orders  are placed in the red box at the office no later than Thursday. We will send home a flyer to families at the beginning of the week when we will be holding the Freaky Friday.

It was great to see a few more parents zooming in to our last P and C Meeting. We really appreciate your input and support. We look forward to seeing you all for the next meeting. All parents and family are most welcome. Our next P & C Meeting will be held by Zoom on Tuesday 17th August at 7pm.

All P & C's rely heavily on parent/carer volunteers. Goulburn South P & C is no different. If you are interested in helping out even for an hour or two there are many ways that we would appreciate the help.

If you would like to express an interest to help out, please notify the office,

School Zone Parking "We need to work together to keep our kids safe"

In the interests and safety of our students and children, please see information provided by Goulburn Mulwaree Council and Goulburn Highway Patrol. The information has been provided to remind parents and community road users of their obligation to obey road and parking rules.
