Term 1 Week 5: Monday 22nd February 2021

Principal's Message

Last assembly, which we have not had for such a long time, I spoke to the students about some further improvements we will be making to the school this year. I told them that our budget from our own funds and from CEDP is around $1 million. I think they all thought that each of them was personally getting $1 million! They were so excited. We will be able to make some great improvements to our learning spaces and will refurbish the Kinder and Year 1 toilet area. We have been meeting with our people from CEDP and the architects as we progress our early planning. More to follow on that over time.

I have been in meetings with CEDP as well regarding our carpark and what needs to happen there. In the meantime, we need your support. It is very positive that many people are now not using the driveway for pedestrian access. One of the issues that appears to block up that main carpark exit is cars turning right into the school and right out of the school during those peak times. Starting Wednesday this week, drivers are asked to ONLY turn left into and left out of the main carpark between 8:30am and 9:15am and between 3:00pm and 3:45pm. This will be much safer and will help traffic flow much better. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Staff have raised concerns that some parents are not coming on foot to collect their children at the Farnham Road exit as they are required to. Some parents are calling their children to run up the road or even across the road to them. This is completely unsafe and is not to continue. Parents also inform me that some parents are parking on the side of the path from Torbert Avenue to the carpark near the Basketball Court area. This makes it impossible for traffic to flow in and out of that area. Please do not park on the path from Torbert Avenue to the carpark. All these measures are meant to keep our community safe and we all need to do our part!

With appreciation of your ongoing support,

Stephen Dowd

Zone Swimming

On Thursday 18th of February 2021, 23 amazing swimmers represented Mary Immaculate at the Blacktown Zone Swimming Carnival. The students all swam exceptionally well and represented the school with pride.

Some amazing results were achieved by the team and many of the students have been selected to represent the Blacktown Zone at the Parramatta Diocesan Swimming.

Thanks to Miss Benjamin for organizing the team and Mrs Hutton for supervising the team on the day.

More exciting information to come when the results are finalised.
