Principal's Message

Dear Community

In the last newsletter, we shared some pictures of our School Captains’ awesome experience of attending Parliament House. During this fortnight, it has been our early childhood classes who have been experiencing some hands on curriculum experiences. We were delighted to be able to invite our students’ mothers and mother figures into the classrooms for some special pampering sessions. This was followed by some extra special visits from a range of farmyard animals!

Make sure you follow Scarborough PS on Instagram and/or Facebook to see more pictures of school events and activities!

School Board

The School Board met last Wednesday and had a very productive meeting, covering a range of governance responsibilities and information. These included:

  • Noting of the 2021 School Budget: This annual process involves discussing the school’s cash budget for the year, including hearing about the sources of funding and the school level financial processes that lead to the allocation of funds to different cost centres
  • Discussions around the Healthy Food and Drink and Anaphylaxis policies: These are expected to be endorsed and published on the school website at the next meeting.
  • Understanding information around the Public School Review process: Board members were introduced to the six domains against which the school will be assessed during our review on August 11.
    • We also engaged in the discussion point “What are we proud of that we would like the reviewers to know about?”
    • From this discussion, it became clear that inclusivity and pastoral care, along with the overarching philosophy that ‘Everybody is Welcome’ will become a central theme throughout our presentation.

More information around the Review process will be shared in the next newsletter and general information will be posted on the website as it comes to hand.

Our next meeting is scheduled for June 16.

As always, if you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to call or email me on Sarah.Dawson@education.wa.edu.au.

Your Move Assembly: Celebrating Our Success!

On Friday 14 May 2021, we held our first formal assembly for the Your Move program! The assembly was led by the two Year 6 Captains and the amazing Your Move student team!! We are delighted to be celebrating how far we have come since joining Your Move Program in 2020, and we enjoyed broadcasting to the school our amazing achievements so far this year.

We had a very special guest attend our assembly, Mr Mark Irwin, the Mayor of the City of Stirling. He joined us for this celebration and announced that we are the overall winners of the Your Move Stirling School’s Competition held in March 2021! SPS did an amazing job with 56% of parents signing up to participate in Your Move Stirling!

The Your Move team announced the results for the National Walk Safely to School Day. Well done we had 61% of active travellers (walk, ride, public transport, park and walk) with 39% of drivers! What a fantastic outcome!

School Photos - Envelopes Coming Home Today

Coming home today with your child will be an envelope for school photos. The envelopes outline the photo packages available and include the order form for parents to complete and return on the day of your child's photos. Should you require an additional envelope for another caregiver, please let the office know and we can send one home.

All students MUST bring their completed personalised envelopes to photo day - even if they have opted not to purchase photos

Should you wish to have photos of siblings taken together please see the front office for a separate envelope.

Student class photos will be taken on Tuesday 1 June with sibling photos taken before school at 8.15am. Children in Kindy G2 will be having photos taken on Thursday 3 June, with any sibling photos with children in Kindy G2 taken that morning at 8.15am.

Running Club

Interested in joining the Scarborough Primary School Running Club? Invites are now open for students in Year 1 to Year 6, with younger students being able to attend with parent supervision. It is the perfect opportunity to participate in different activities and to have some fun whilst being fit and active. P&C News

Hello SPS families!

First off, let us thank everyone who supported our Mother’s Day stall! It was a very successful event and we nearly sold out of all our gifts. We trust all mums got spoiled this Mother’s Day!

And who has visited the library recently? What a transformation! The library has been fitted with new shelves and furniture and is looking fantastic! We are glad to see that the funds raised by the P&C are well spent.

Over the coming weeks, we will be announcing more fun and exciting fundraisers, so keep an eye out on SkoolBag and our Facebook page.

And if YOU have any great fundraising ideas or if you simply like to know more about the P&C and what we do, why don’t you come along to our next meeting? The next meeting is Monday 28 June at 6.30pm on the school library.

School Banking Representative

The P&C is seeking a new volunteer to take on the role of the School Banking Representative. This service has been paused in line with the COVID Guidelines; however, we are allowed to commence accepting deposits at the school again.

School Banking is a valuable tool for children to learn about money, banking and saving. Children will learn to set goals, find ways to make money (chores etc), earn rewards and they can track their progress via an App.

As the rep, you will have to invest about an hour a week during school the school term. Your main duties are accepting deposits at school (usually one morning a week before school starts) and depositing these at the Bank.

If this interests you, please email us for more information.

Canteen is looking for volunteers

Canteen is looking for more volunteers. Our school is growing and we simply need extra hands to make canteen a success. It’s only a few hours on Friday morning and your child gets a FREE meal deal!

E-mail us at the P&C or speak to Laura on Fridays in the canteen if you are keen to help.

We like to remind all Kindy group 2 parents and caregivers that you can also order lunch from Canteen every Friday! Don’t bother making yet another lunch, order before Friday 8.30am via Quickcliq.com.au and we will deliver it your child’s classroom!

Please also note that all canteen orders need to be placed via QuickCliq prior to 8.30am on Friday. Cash is not accepted.

Uniform Shop is looking for volunteers

The Uniform Shop is fully stocked and open on Wednesday mornings from 8.45am-9.15am. Again, with the growth of our school, the Uniform Shop is looking for volunteers to help with the smooth running of the shop. Please contact Sarah if you can lend a hand.

To order any uniform items, please download the form from our school website at http://scarboroughps.wa.edu.au/p-c/uniform-shop/.  E-mailed orders will be delivered to your child’s classroom.
