ATTENDANCE

What a great start to the year everyone.   For the end of Term one, the below results show that we are doing really well and are above 90% in all year levels.  Fantastic results for our year 4 students – 96%.  That is just awesome.  Remember that you need to be at school every day unless you are sick.  Let’s see if we can do just as well next term as we are then reported on by the Department for the end of Semester 1.

The next set of data shows how many students in each year level, that have outstanding explanations for absences.

Parents, please remember to provide the school with a note as to why your child is absent so that we can have 100% explained absences as this data is compared from school to school and with regions in the state.  All you need to do is to reply to the SMS message you receive when it comes through showing that your child is absent on that day.  That is the quickest way to reply and not forget.

As you can see, Year 1 and Year 4 parents are the best at returning absence notifications.  Let’s see if we can get all year levels to less than 10 or better still all to 0!  Thank you to the majority of those parents who do return absence notifications.  It really helps us to continue to strive for excellence.

HEALTH TIPS

Building your child's self esteem

Good self-esteem helps children and young people to try new things, take healthy risks and solve problems.  Positive self-esteem provides children with a solid foundation for their learning and development and enables them to feel good about themselves.

Parents can help build the self-esteem of their children by frequently doing the following with them:

·         Say “I love you”

·         Develop and maintain special daily rituals

·         Let your children help you

·         Let your child make mistakes and solve some of their own problems

·         Praise children for trying

·         Show an interest in the sports or hobbies they are interested in

·         Eat meals as a family

·         Seek out one-on-one opportunities often

·         Praise desirable behaviour (praise should be genuine and specific)

·         Correct negative behaviour firmly but lovingly

·         Respect their choices

·         Celebrate your child’s successes - big and small

·         Make your children a priority in your life.
