Principal's Report

Dear parents and carers,

Graduation

Last night we had our graduation celebration for the Year Six class of 2021.  It was a wonderful celebration of the students and their time at Macedon Primary School.  I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and hearing all about what our graduate’s hopes, and dreams for their future.  This group is bursting with personality, aspirations and fun.  I wish them all the very best and encourage them to dream big, work hard and be kind.

Farewell Families

At this time of the year we also say farewell to many families for the last time.   I would like to thank these families for their support and wish them all the very best in the future.  We will miss you all and you are always welcome to drop in a say g’day.

Allen, Bohan, Bonello, Eckley, Crawshaw, Dorhout-Mees, Durham-Ashdown, Enge, Eshuys, Hall, Mishima, Hardy, Hansford, Hehir, Hopwood, Iddles, Moait, Yates,  Morley,  Pierce, Porter, Rocard, Rogers, Royal,  Scott, Sherwood, Stone, Swain,  Vernon.

Farewell Staff

It is with sadness that we also farewell Karlisa Smy and Seraphim Kyprianou at the end of he year.

Karlisa started with us as an educational support staff member mid-year this year and has had an incredibly positive impact on the class and student she has worked with in a short time.  I wish Karlisa all the very best with her role in 2022 and say farewell from Macedon PS.

Seraphim Kyprianou is also leaving us at the end of the year.  Seraphim has also had a positive impact on his class and as a member of the school leadership team in 2021.  Seraphim has been appointed as the principal of Tallarook PS.  Seraphim will be missed here and I am confident he will make a great principal and wish him all the very best.  We currently have a position advertised for Seraphim’s replacement which will be settled before the academic year begins in 2022.

Today is Carloyn Pain’s last day at Macedon PS.  We would like to thank Carolyn for her contributions to Macedon PS as a parent and staff member.  Carolyn has been affiliated with the school for 22 years.  All the very best Carolyn.

Class Placements

The final transition morning will occur tomorrow.  The students will meet their 2022 classroom teacher and classmates between 9am and 11am.  This is an important final step in our transition process.  Each new year brings change and further opportunity.  Change is a normal and inevitable part of everyday living and when it is framed with a positive and growth mindset your child is supported to navigate these developmental milestones.  Transition, better described as a process of getting used to change, provides your child with huge opportunities for personal, emotion and social growth.  It is something that I encourage you to embrace as a learning opportunity for your child.

Have a safe and Happy holiday

I hope to see you all at our outdoor final assembly on the basketball court at 12:30pm Friday.  The students will be dismissed at 1:30pm on Friday.  If I don’t happen to see you before the end of the week, I wish you all a safe, happy and restful Christmas break.  Merry Christmas.

Kind regards and Sampai jumpa (until next time)

From the office

Medications in the sick bay

If your child has medication held in the sick bay that you would like to use over the holidays, please come and collect it from the office. We are currently sending letters to those families with expired medications and asthma/allergy and anaphylaxis plans that have or are about to expire. Please make a time over the holidays to see your doctor and have these plans updated and ready for the new year.

Merry Christmas

This year has been a challenge with cancelled/postponed events, we have had a busy time in the office and sick bay and we thank the parents for their co-operation and  understanding. We hope you have a restful Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all in 2022!

Farewell Mrs Pain

As you have read earlier in the newsletter, today we farewell Mrs Carolyn Pain, who has been the art teacher at Macedon Primary for many years and educating children for over 30 years. We thought we would share some of the sentiments of the students;

"Thank you for being such a wonderful art teacher.  You have always been so creative and amazing. Thank you", from Sienna R

"Hello Mrs Pain, I would like you to know that every time I see your art I get amazed and even though you are leaving, I will still always have you in my mind. I love how you are so open minded and that you never give up, you never run out of ideas and you are so smart. It's sad for you to leave but I'll always have that special memory of you, I love your art and I love you, thanks for being there for me" - Ruby W

"You have been the best art teacher ever. There have been so many fun activities that you have taught us, for the last few years. I have loved the Christmas activities. Recently I have become quite passionate in art and want to keep doing it. Thank you so much for being our art teacher". - Lukas B

"You have been my art teacher since I was in prep, and over the years you have taught me so much about art. I am always so excited about art when I have you because you are so nice and kind and the activities you plan are always super fun! I'm sad that you're leaving. So thank you for being the BEST ART TEACHER! - Gemma A

"Thank you for being the best art teacher I've ever had. You are always happy. I'm going to miss you a lot. I hope you have a happy new life at the beach. I will remember you no matter what. Please remember us." - Jasmine H

Enjoy your retirement Carolyn! From the staff and students.

Remember to be SunSmart

With the change of seasons we remind all students to please wear their hats when they are outside. UV radiation cannot be seen or felt , can be reflected off surfaces, can pass through light clouds and varies in intensity across the year (it is highest in Victoria from mid-August to the end of April).

At lunchtime and recess we ask that children seek shade, slip on protective clothing, slap on a sun protective hat, slop on some sunscreen and slide on some sunglasses!

Hats are available to purchase from the Beleza Store in Gisborne

Outside School Hours Care

Enrolments for 2022 are filling fast, if you need OSHC next year please let us know.

Spaces are filling up for OSHC.  Most spaces are taken up by permanent bookings and we are unable to book casuals in (they will have to be placed on a waiting list).  If you have a permanent booking and do not need the service for After School please advise the program as soon as you know, preferably before 11.00am on the day so we are able to give that space to another child.  For Before School, please call before 6.30pm the day before or email the service on oshp@macedonps.vic.edu.au

Late cancellation fees apply if your child’s place is cancelled after 11.00am.  Further, if you do not cancel your child and they do not attend, fees may still apply.

Fee increase for 2022

Our rates for 2022 are: $16.00 for Before School Care (7:00am - 8:45am) and $23.00 for After School Care (3:30pm - 6:30pm).
