Term 4 Week 7: Monday 15th November 2021

Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

We started receiving our new furniture last Friday. Kinder and Year 1 now have their new furniture. Years 2 and 3 will have theirs delivered this Friday. This is hugely exciting for our students.

The new furniture provides various seating and gathering opportunities for the students. This is directly in line with the refurbishment practices in Catholic, State and Independent schools to have their learning environments suited to kids and not the other way around as has been the case for many years.

Over the next few weeks, the rest of the school furniture will also be replaced. I will share with you images from the new spaces as they are set up. BFX is a well-known educational furniture design and supply company. They have several articles here that are easy to read about improvements in classroom design.

Here is a picture of the classroom design that we continue to move away from towards a design that is student-centred.

With appreciaition for your ongoing support,

Stephen Dowd

Counsellor's Message

The idea that children are only ‘attention-seeking’ when they behave in certain ways may not be the whole story. If we move ‘attention-seeking’ to ‘need-seeking’, we may be able to understand more about what our children need and are trying to express through their behaviour. I’ve attached a flyer for a well known parenting course known as Tuning in to Kids. There are quite a few options available for parenting courses and this one focuses mostly on improving communication. The course commences this week and is free for parents and caregivers .

Message from Sister Valerie (Sacramental Coordinator)

Greetings to all of you.  As you are aware, the Sacramental program for Confirmation and First Reconciliation had to be postponed in 2021 due to the long lockdown that we all have experienced.

 Sacrament of Confirmation

Those who applied for the Sacrament of Confirmation have already received the information about the dates and times.  If you have not received any information from me, we have not received your application.  We will have the Sacrament of Confirmation in January/February for those who have applied.  There will be another Confirmation program in August/September for any children in Years 5 or older.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have not received the information and you have already applied.  The Confirmation ceremonies will happen twice in 2022 so if anyone missed out, you can receive the sacrament in September with the preparation in August 2022.

 Sacrament of First Reconciliation

For those children who are now in year 3 or older who are seeking to make their First Holy Communion in June 2022, we will combine the Reconciliation and Holy Communion Program.  In Term 1 we will do the Preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation which the children will receive sometime before Easter.  After Easter we will begin the Program for First Holy Communion so the children can receive their First Communion during the month of June in 2022.  Since the Sacraments will be so close in time, we will have one application for both Sacraments.  We will endeavour to have the applications out in December 2021, but they will be due back to us by the middle of February 2022.  Another Program for the Sacrament of Reconciliation will take place in October 2022 with the children receiving their First Reconciliation in November 2022 and First Communion in June 2023.

Feel free to call me or email me at any time if you have any questions or concerns.

 Kind Regards,

Sister Valerie csfn

School Banking Update from Commonwealth Bank

For 90 years, our School Banking program has helped children learn about money, reinforced the importance of regular savings and provided structure for parents to support their children to save.

Though the program continues to have strong support from schools, parents and teachers, recent decisions by some state and territory governments because of a review by the corporate regulator mean we are unable to continue providing programs in schools, and we have had to make a difficult decision to close our School Banking program for all government and non-government schools across the country.

Our School Banking program was established in 1931 at a time when having a bank account was not commonplace, and since then we have helped more than 15 million Australians take their first financial steps. This would not have been possible without the wonderful support we have received from schools like yours, including all the parents and volunteers, and for this we are deeply grateful. Thank you.

Even though this is a sad time, School Banking has taught so many young Australians, past and present, the value of money and we believe this should be celebrated. We have created a place for you to share your stories, fondest memories and lessons learnt through the program. To share your story and access our financial education resources, please visit commbank.com.au/scholbanking

Even though the CommBank School Banking program will not be returning to your school after this year, you can continue to make deposits into your child’s Youthsaver account through online transfers or at any CommBank branch. If you need further information please phone 132 221 or visit your local CommBank branch.
