Principal's Message

Dear Community

It is with both pride and sadness that we farewell Mrs Erica Salt at the end of this term. It has been fantastic to have her back for the first half of this year. Whilst we always knew she would be moving on again in the near future, we have appreciated every day that we have had her positive energy and experience with us in the first half of this year. Erica is leaving the Education Department to pursue a psychology degree, an area that has become her passion over her time in education. We wish you all the best for your new adventure, Mrs Salt!

This morning our Year 3 -6 students had the privilege of listening to the speeches of our Speak Up finalists. Eight students were invited to talk at our school finals. They were:

·         From Year 4, Harry L and Harry D

·         From Year 5, Olivia, Neve and Nicolas

·         From Year 6, Lucille, Weston and Toloa

Our judges had the unenviable task of selecting 3 of these students to go through to the Regional Finals which will be held in Term 3. We wish we could have sent all of then through, but at the end of the day, the three who were selected were

·         Toloa

·         Neve and;

·         Nicolas

Congratulations to all of today’s finalists. Once again you have done Scarborough PS proud!

Our cross country races were also held across the week. Faction points are extremely close after this event and are as follows:

·         Challenger 103

·         Stirling 99

·         Parmelia 97

Well done to everyone who participated and tried their hardest – as you can see from the close results, every faction point earned was extremely valuable! A list of place getters is listed further down in this newsletter.

As always, if you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to call or email me on Sarah.Dawson@education.wa.edu.au.

Your Move Program

Please find below links to two articles that were submitted to Your Move to earn points regarding the Surprise HANDS UP SURVEY we did on Wednesday. Comparative figures reveal driving is down and active travel up!  We have moved up from Gold to Platinum which is very pleasing - last year we reached Silver!!!!

Hand Up Survey 3rd June 2021

Based on this student sample the percentage trend shows 15% increase in cycling and 19% increase in walking with a 15% reduction in driving from March 2021. In absolute numbers from this sample, there is an overall increase in active travel of 120 versus 86 from the previous “Hands Up” Travel Survey.

World Bicycle Day - 3rd June 2021

The reason for World Bicycle Day is to recognise the longevity, uniqueness, and versatility of the bicycle, and that it is a reliable, simple, clean, and environmentally friendly mode of transport.

P&C News

P&C News

Hello SPS families

Greetings from the SPS P&C! Who and what is the P&C, you ask? Well, the SPS P&C (Parent and Citizens Association) is primarily a fundraising body in our school. Our focus is to raise funds to support the school and the students in their growth and well-being. The P&C is open to everyone in our school community and it’s a great way to connect with others and support our amazing school.

Our next meeting is on Monday 28 June at 6.30pm in the school library. This meeting will focus on all the exciting fundraising options for Term 3 and 4. We would love to see you there as we value everyone’s input and ideas.

School Banking Representative

The P&C is seeking a new volunteer to take on the role of the School Banking Representative. This service has been paused in line with the COVID Guidelines, however we are allowed to commence accepting deposits at the school again.

School Banking is a valuable tool for children to learn about money, banking and saving. Children will learn to set goals, find ways to make money (chores etc), earn rewards and they can track their progress via an App.

As a rep you will have to invest about an hour a week, during the school term. Your main duties are accepting deposits at school (usually one morning a week before school starts) and depositing these at the Bank.

If this interests you, please email us for more information.

Canteen is looking for volunteers

Canteen is looking for more volunteers. Our school is growing and we simply need extra hands to make canteen a success. It’s only a few hours on Friday morning and your child gets a FREE meal deal!

E-mail us at the P&C or speak to Laura on Fridays in the canteen if you are keen to help.

We like to remind all Kindy group 2 parents and caregivers that you can also order lunch from Canteen every Friday! Don’t bother making yet another lunch, order before Friday 8.30am via Quickcliq.com.au and we will deliver it your child’s classroom!

Please also note that all canteen orders need to be placed via QuickCliq prior to 8.30am on Friday. Cash is not accepted.

Uniform Shop is looking for volunteers

The Uniform Shop is fully stocked and open on Wednesday mornings from 8.45am-9.15am. Again, with the growth of our school, the Uniform Shop is looking for volunteers to help with the smooth running of the shop. Please contact Sarah if you can lend a hand.

To order any uniform items, please download the form from our school website at http://scarboroughps.wa.edu.au/p-c/uniform-shop/.  E-mailed orders will be delivered to your child’s classroom.

Contact Sarah via scarboroughprimarypcuniform@gmail.com.

Containers for Change

We will continue to fundraise through the Containers for Change initiative. The Containers for Change bins can be found at the school entry at Hinderwell Street near the Room 9 Heritage Building. Keep on bringing those empty cans and bottles to support the P&C!

Alternatively, if you wish to donate at a refund point of your choosing you can quote our Scheme ID C10240685. If you prefer to attend a Reverse Vending Machine location please use the barcode at the top of the P&C news. This may be your preference if you have a larger donation and be rest assured that the money goes back to the P&C.

Next Meeting

Our next General Meeting will be held Monday 28  June at 6.30pm in the school library.
