As a Principal I am very blessed and humbled to be surrounded by so many gifted, loving and faith filled people. Each day is filled with the love of Jesus and ways that I can show his love to others and how others show his love to me. On Friday, of last week, a very large group of children joined together to pray the Rosary as part of our Rosary club. Our senior students organise this prayer experience every week under the guidance of Mrs. Hyson. We had a very special prayer experience as we all congregated together in our Church to pray to Mary our Mother. It was the 100 anniversary of the Legion of Mary. Her statue was a beautiful figure of unconditional love she has for her son Jesus and all of us who pray to her, for her and through her.
Harmony Week
This week is Harmony week, however to us at St. Andrew’s, Harmony week is a daily event. This week however is a global event joining our differences together into one peaceful and respectful community. The children were given many opportunities to listen to stories about the many different communities that add to the richness of our world and our life.
On Friday the children are invited to wear their traditional dress or colours that represent their family's heritage and culture. Children can also wear the colour orange that has become a big part of the Harmony Week tradition. Let us always remember that we are made in the image of God.
Changes to school processes
Last Friday a letter went home to our families outlining some changes to our current restrictions. I thank you for your support in continuing to keep our school and community safe. The Christmas break proved that it does not take much for a COVID cluster to spread.
Easter Raffle
An enormous thank you to the P&F committee for organising our Easter Raffle. If you would like additional raffle tickets please either download them or collect them from the office. There will be four very generous baskets to be won. The draw will be held on Monday morning assembly in the last week of the school term.
Cyber Safety
We are all aware of the hidden dangers associated with the internet and the predators that search the net for innocent children. It is our responsibility to educate our children of these dangers and empower them to be proactive in safety and responsible practices. In week 10, our Stage 2 and 3 children will be in session with Sergeant John Bolard to continue to build their understanding of safe and responsible ITC use. A letter will go home to families in Week 9 with the information.
School Disco fundraiser
Our P&F will be hosting our Term 1 grade disco. A letter went home last Friday with the details.
Children are invited to wear casual clothes on this day. Please remember to wear sensible shoes.
Cross Country Trials
Mr Paynter has been very busy training the children for the cross country trials scheduled for Friday the 26th of March. Only children interested in the event will be invited to trial. We wish our students good luck and happy running.
Whole School Assembly
Last week we celebrated our whole school assembly, congratulating the many children identified this term for their dedication to learning and for living the Gospel values of Jesus.
Photos of the event have been added to our Website gallery.
Our next whole school awards will be Friday of week 9. A decision is still pending regarding parent attendance. THE MAIN ISSUE IS MAINTAINING THE 1.5 METRE RULE FOR PARENTS IN A VERY LIMITED SPACE. These events are always very well attended and space is very tight once the children and teachers are in the hall.
Student Uniforms- wearing our uniform with pride
I ask parents to please be mindful of your children attending school in the correct uniform every day. Variation or additions to the school uniform is not allowed unless an explanation is given. I thank you for your attendance to this issue.
Student Attendance
This week many letters went home to parents reminding them of the importance of students attending school every day unless they are unwell. Many of our children are already well below the expected rate of 90 %. If you require help in this matter, please contact Mrs Van Der Burg
