Special Edition – Term 2, 2021 - IMPLEMENTING COVIDSAFE

From the Principal

Dear parents and members of the OLSH community and extended OLSH community,

Welcome back to school for the start of Term 2.  To make up for the loss of learning time due to the closure of schools, please note the following:

  • Term 2 will run for 11 weeks from Monday 19 April to Friday 2 July.
  • There will be only 1 week of Term 2 holidays from Saturday 2 July to Sunday 11 July.
  • Term 3 will commence on Monday 12 July and will run for 10 weeks instead of 9 weeks.

COVIDSAFE Measures at OLSH

  • Daily temperature scanning will continue at the gate before school.
  • Heightened efforts have been made to ensure optimum hygiene in all areas of the school especially the toilets and other wet areas, through regular cleaning during the day, by the cleaning staff and using disinfectants.
  • Provision of soap for the washing of hands and regular replacement of soap.
  • Provision of hand sanitiser in every classroom.
  • 3 wash stations have been installed around the school. Students will be required to wash their hands in the mornings before school as well as before and after recess and lunch.
  • Educational videos and other resources will be used in P-12 classrooms to reiterate and reinforce the vital importance of hand washing and general hygiene.

  • Appropriate Social Distancing in classrooms has been implemented.  Desks will be wiped down at the start and at the end of each day
  • All laptops and Ipads will be wiped down at the end of each class.  Music lessons will focus on Music Theory and vocals.  Instruments will not be used in these lessons, until further notice.
  • Friday Mass, Sport, and all assemblies will not take place until further notice.  These timeslots will be used in making up for lost learning time and ensuring completion of curriculum delivery.  Students will not be permitted the use of any playground equipment.
  • Mask-wearing is compulsory for all students above the age of 12 years and all staff.  Washable masks are available at the School Reception for K 2.00 per mask.

COVIDSAFE from home to school

Parents and guardians are asked to ensure the following:

  • Please do not send your child to school if she/he shows signs of cold, cough, or fever.  Please keep your child at home and seek immediate medical attention.
  • If a parent or other family member is in quarantine at home, please do not send your child/children to school until the quarantine period for the parent or other family member is safely completed.
  • Your child/children if older than 12 years, brings a face mask to wear at school every day.

Parents please support us by ensuring that daily COVIDSAFE measures at home, complement the enhanced hygiene measures that OLSH is taking every day.

These are basic yet vital steps all parents are being asked to follow, in order that we may do the right thing for the health and safety of every student and staff member at the school.

We are all in this together and together we will overcome the COVID-19 challenge by doing the right thing.

Learning from Home Packs

OLSH is open for our core business: highest quality learning-teaching every day.  We are confident that our COVID-Safe measures are of a high standard.  Hence, if you decide to keep your child/children home for whatever reasons, please be informed that OLSH will be unable to provide Learning from Home Packs for your child’s learning at home.

Under our Every Child Under the Microscope initiative, OLSH teachers are working very conscientiously to prepare and deliver high quality lessons every day in every classroom to the students who are attending school and to whom we owe our first Duty of Care. Parents please send your child/children to school every day.  Missing school diminishes the quality of learning.

As the staff of OLSH International, we are all set to resume our pace and engage in dedicated learning-teaching from Day 1.  We continue to ask for parent support for our endeavour.

The regular newsletter for Week 1 will be published on Thursday 22 April.
