Week 2, Term 1
Hi everyone and welcome back to Woy Woy South PS for another! Last year I said that we couldn’t be challenged any further…. but here we are! We know it may not be a traditional ‘start’ to a new school year, however, we are approaching it with great enthusiasm and optimism.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to families who are new to our school who are starting the school year at Woy Woy South for the first time. We are very excited to have you with us and know that you will enjoy your time at our school. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions or queries regarding school information or procedures.
Our newsletter will be released fortnightly in 2022, on the even weeks of the school term. The newsletter can be accessed most easily through the Skoolbag App - link for instructions on how to download skoolbag: https://www.moqproducts.com.au/skoolbag/installation-instructions/
COVID Restrictions
As was the case for the majority of 2021, restrictions on access to the school grounds for parents is very likely to be an ongoing arrangement for the time being. I’d like to thank everyone for being so understanding and cooperative with these arrangements. As you are all well aware, we have been distributing RA Tests and will continue to do this over the first 4 week of the school year. Despite every attempt to maintain safety for everyone, it is inevitable that we will have positive cases amongst our students, staff and parents. As a reminder, if your child tests positive please adhere to the following procedure –
- Do not send your child or their siblings to school (If your child has previously had COVID and returns a positive result please contact the office to clarify)
- Contact the school office as soon as possible
- Register your child’s positive result with NSW Health:
- Approximately 2 days after registering your child’s positive result you will receive a text message with a link to a medical certificate containing your child’s name and the required dates for isolation. This certificate will serve as justification for your child’s absence from school, aswell as any absence for a sibling who is forced to self-isolate as a close family contact.
- When we are notified of a positive case at our school, we will provide a general alert for the community through our Skoolbag App – please take the time to ensure you have access to this communication platform (See instructions below).
- The identity of any member of our school community testing positive will remain strictly confidential. When there has been a positive case, we request that you closely monitor for symptoms and remain up to date with the RA testing process.
2022 Classes Update
Fortunately, our student numbers are very good and we’ve been able to avoid ‘holding’ our students for an extended period. Further details regarding specific class details will be given at the Parent Information Evenings on the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th of February. The specifics of these Zoom based meetings will be released shortly.
Welcome
I’d like to extend a warm welcome to the new staff commencing at Woy Woy South in 2022.
- Mrs Jacqui Clayton, Assistant Principal Learning & Support, Class Teacher 5/6C
- Mrs Jessica Ogden, Class Teacher 2O
- Miss Natalie Dwyer, Class Teacher RFF
- Mr Joseph Jesus, Student Learning Support Officer
A very warm welcome to you all. We look forward to having you in our school community. A full list of WWS teaching staff in 2022 will be updated on our website shortly.
School Uniform
This week our students have looked great in their school uniforms! A big thanks to all families for preparing the children so well for the beginning of the school year. A reminder that all WWS students are requested to attend school in full summer uniform during Term 1, which includes a red WWS school hat and plain black shoes. Please take the time to familiarise yourself with the requirements as this contributes significantly to ensuring a positive start to the year and maintaining ongoing positive school pride and culture.
Wishing you all a great start to the year,
Matt Barr
Principal
