From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been a very busy week at St Patrick's.  Senior students are trying out for Winter Series sports teams during the breaks.

We have all had a fun day singing along with Andrew Chinn today and the concert was very entertaining.  We always look forward to Andrew's visits.

Thank you to the parents who came along to the working bee last Saturday morning. Despite the drizzling rain we managed to start removing some growth around the water tanks in preparation for the building project due to begin later this year.

Thank you also to the School Captains, and their parents, who represented our school at the ANZAC Day ceremony last Sunday morning.

Congratulations to Miss Hannah Williams on her engagement to Joel Wilson over the weekend.

Kind regards,

Olga Lyons, Principal

Term 2 Sports News

Another busy term of school sports is upon us over the next few weeks.  Next week, on Wednesday 5th May, children in Years 3-6 will be competing in the St Patrick's School Cross Country at Russel Clarke Reserve at 9.25pm.  The three age groups for competing are 10 year olds, 11 year olds and 12/13 year olds.  The top 8 place getters in each age group will then compete the following week on Friday 14th May at the Moyne Schools Cross Country Championships which is also to be held at Russel Clark Reserve.  We encourage all children in Years 3-6 to participate in the school cross country.  Our 9 year old students will run in a race amongst themselves that is shorter in distance.  So please encourage any of your children between now and next Wednesday that are keen runners, to get in some practise.

On Friday May 7th, St Patrick's students will be representing our school at the Warrnambool and District Primary Schools Athletics Championships.

On Friday the 14th May, the Moyne School's Soccer Tournament will be played at Port Fairy Cricket Club Grounds.  This will be played in the afternoon of the School Cross Country.  Children have registered their interest for playing on this team and over the next couple of weeks our students will prepare for the game.

On Friday 4th June, St Patricks will enter teams in Netball and Football to compete in the Moyne Schools Winter Sports Carnival.  Children have registered their interest in playing on these teams and over the next week teams will be selected and commence training.

Yesterday, some Grade 5/6 students and Year 1 students took part in a football clinic organised by the Port Fairy Football Club.  Twelve year AFL veteran Shane Savage took the clinic. Shane did a fantastic job and the children enjoyed themselves immensely.  Hopefully Shane will be back later in the year.

NAPLAN

Year 3 & 5 classes will be participating in the NAPLAN Assessments on May 11,12,& 13.  The assessments are in Reading, Spelling & Grammar, Writing and Mathematics.

Wellbeing News - Antonia Balmer

Congratulations to our students on the behaviours they have displayed when they have been entering and exiting our school. Having students walking bikes and scooters across the school crossing and out the front of the school ensures their safety as they travel to and from school.

Our Expected Behaviour Blitz will be our corridors.
