Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members
Unbelievably we are half way through Week 9 and have only 7 school days until the holidays. This term has been extremely busy and my sincere thanks go to all parents and carers for their cooperation during this time.
This fortnight I would like to remind all of our families about how to communicate with us when problems arise. The following are our recommended steps when dealing with school based issues:
1. Try to identify the problem clearly before going to the school. If there is more than one problem, list them to ensure that the extent of the problem is clear to the school.
2. Decide whether the problem is a concern, a query, request or a complaint. This will help in finding a solution.
3. Make an appointment to talk with the teacher. This can be arranged through our school office.
4. Try to stay calm. Even if you don't feel it, being calm will help to get your concerns across more clearly than if you are upset or angry.
5. If the issue involves an incident involving another parent’s child, do not approach the child or parent. Raise the issue with the school first.
6. Raise the issue with myself or a member of the Leadership Group, if you feel the issue has not been resolved or addressed through initial contact with the relevant teacher.
OPEN NIGHT
Open Night was a terrific success and we thank everyone who came along and shared the opportunity with their children. Our data collected showed that we had on average 74% of families attend on the night. We are conducting a survey to review this event and look forward to your feedback.
HOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Due to the COVID-19 Phase 4 guidelines we will be splitting the athletics carnival into different mini events. These include:
• Fri, 17 September 8.50am – 10.00am K-PP carnival
• Fri, 17 September 10.30am – 2.15pm Year 1-6 carnival
We welcome all families to come and support their children at the planned times across the next couple of days.
MENS SHED EVENT
Our next Men’s Shed event is scheduled for this afternoon, commencing at 4.30pm. There are a number of activities organised and the event will be open to boys and girls and their fathers or primary male caregiver. My sincere thanks go to our male staff members who are coordinating this activity.
CLASS PLANNING FOR 2022
Now is the time when we begin planning for next year. In the next few weeks we will begin arranging classes for 2022. The process we use includes:
1. A draft class structure is created based on student enrolments (predicted).
2. Staff meet to discuss and allocate students to classes, consideration is given to:
· Student academic needs.
· Student behavioral needs.
· Student social needs.
· Gender balance.
· Previous placement in a composite class.
· Parent feedback.
3. Leadership Group review classes and meet with staff to clarify, modify, confirm classes.
4. Staff meet to discuss final placements (this may involve multiple meetings).
5. Classes are published for parents and students.
If there are any matters that you would like us to consider that are based on educational grounds, we ask that you submit them to me in writing by completing the appropriate form that is available from our reception. All requests must be received by Friday, 15 October.
Please note that requests for particular teachers will not be considered under any circumstances.
I would like to assure all families that we go to great lengths to structure classes to meet the needs of all of our students.
Have a great fortnight and a wonderful semester break with your loved ones!!
Craig Ashby
