Term 4 Week 11: Monday 13th December 2021

Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

As the school year closes, amongst the reality of the pandemic, there remains much that we have done together to celebrate. There is no denying that everyone's lives have been significantly effected by Covid 19. Such a traumatic global phenomenon could only really polarise our experiences. We saw the best and the worst of human character. We have been inspired by those near and far who consistently rose to whatever challenges we faced.

Here at MIPS, as a community we focused and combined our efforts to continue to remain resolute in our work for our students. The partnership between home and school was never more important. But it was just so different because of remote learning. Connecting with students and families became so vital on a daily basis. Not always perfect were the efforts of adults to support students and their learning. But we all continued to explore and develop new ways of managing and coping.

Our thanks to the parents who became teachers, to the teachers who became digital and learning innovators, and to the students who became new learners in a new environment. We all look forward with hope to 2022. In this season of Advent and Christmas, we are called to look forward with hope. We are stronger for the journey we have encountered in 2021. But like pilgrims of old, many of us are exhausted and strained by the journey. I pray that our community will regain whatever was lost in 2021. In 2022 we will clearly need to focus on the ongoing support of the wellbeing of all members of our community. We will do that in partnership because that is when we achieve the most!

God bless and see you all in 2022,

Stephen Dowd

Assistant Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the support you have provided MIPS and your wonderful children. It has certainly been an interesting year! Although 2021 has been a challenge we have like always been successful in coming together as a community. We reflect on the time we were all placed into Lockdown and were forced to learn remotely and how amazing our teachers were in continuing the level of learning we are accustomed to at Mary Immaculate. To the children who adapted to their new way of communicating, learning, and socialising, they continue to amaze us as to how independent they are. And to parents and carers our success as a school is due to the ongoing assistance and support, we are given from you.

It was a highlight to the year when we were able to welcome all our beautiful students back. The smiles as they were reacquainted with their friends remains priceless. We have a unique community here at MIPS which makes it a wonderful family to be a part of.

Be sure to relax and enjoy this special time with your loved ones. Wishing you a Holy and safe Christmas. I look forward to working with you again next year.

Counsellor's Message

Christmas is often a time of many emotions and heightened expectations. Joining together with family and friends to celebrate is definitely welcome, especially after the year that has been 2021. However, this period can also be a time of stress, loneliness, and conflict. It is worth acknowledging this, especially given the added stresses and anxieties that have arisen as a result of the pandemic, lockdown, and the uncertainty around seeing family and friends interstate and overseas over the past few years. Given the above, here are a few things to keep in mind as we move into this holiday season:

  • It has been a challenging year and we have all been resilient in meeting that challenge

  • Manage your expectations - things won’t be perfect and that’s ok

  • Lean into your values around what is Most important at this time and act from these values. This will help reduce stress and anxiety.

Wishing the MIPS community a peaceful and joyful holiday season. Thank you for the opportunity to support  your children this year and see you in 2022.

2021 Mayoral Creative Writing Competition

Congratulations to Giann H in Year 2G for entering and representing MIPS in the 2021 Mayoral Creative Writing Prize Competition for Blacktown City Council.

Giann is a very talented writer and illustrator in 2G. During lockdown, Giann decided to pursue his passion of creative writing and to make this his passion project. Giann wrote a wonderful short story titled “The Big Deadline”.

Vridhi & Gaurav H said that “Giann has loved this experience and has learnt so much, it is the first step towards his dream of becoming an author”.

You have made us, your MIPS family and your parents very proud Giann. Congratulations!

From the Library

As you know the last 18 months or so has been a roller coaster for everyone. This has also been the case for the Library. Borrowing has been on and off, therefore it has been hard to keep track of books.

Could I please ask that all library books at home be sent back to school.  There will be tubs outside the library if the library doors are locked. I have send home reminders of the books that have not been returned. Please return all books so they will be on the shelves ready for 2022 borrowing. If you have already returned books recently that are on your notice please disregard it.

A reminder to year 6. Any overdue books stay under your name in year 7. I don’t want to see that happen to anyone so have a good look for those books.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

I wish everyone a Happy, safe Christmas and New Year.

Next year is a fresh start.

Mathematics Assessment Interview

At the beginning of each year, all primary school students in the Parramatta diocese are assessed using the Mathematical Assessment Interview (MAI). This opportunity gives classroom teachers valuable information about the students knowledge, skills and understanding in Numeracy. This is an individual assessment interview with the new 2022 classroom teacher and it takes approximately 30 minutes per student in 1-6 and 45 minutes for Kindergarten

The dates of these interviews are Friday 28th January and Monday 31st of January 2022 (and Tuesday 1st February - Kinder only).

Bookings are now open for the 2022 Mathematical Assessment Interview (MAI)
