From the Leadership

The end of Week 7 has arrived and what a crazy week we have had.  We would like to commend our staff and students for the way they handled the State lock down.  The professionalism shown by staff and the willingness to help out our learners in any way they could warmed our hearts.  Thank goodness it was short term and we were back to normal, ready to enjoy our last two weeks.

We would like to also thank our parent community for observing our COVID restrictions going forward.

2021

Last week we shared our class structures for 2021.  Teachers and Leadership have put many hours into the process and whilst we have tried to accommodate people’s wishes, this is not always possible.  In 2021 we start with big numbers. Class movements will be very hard to accommodate. Staffing has been put into the system and we hope to have our teachers confirmed shortly

Goodbyes

It is with mixed emotions that we inform our community that Jo Meredith has won a position as a “Curriculum Lead” in our Local Education Team based at the Flinders Park office.  During her two years at St Leonards, Jo has forged close relationships with our school community. Her expertise and measured approach to improving student learning will be missed.  The positive news for us however is that St Leonards is one of the schools that Jo will be working with and we are very excited that she will continue to offer her 'pearls of wisdom'.  Congratulations Jo.  We will all miss you.

We are hoping to have news on the Leadership structure for 2021 in the next newsletter

Enjoy the lead up to Christmas.  Enjoy these family times.  They are so important.

Celebration Dance Concert

The countdown is on for our Celebration Concert on Wednesday! Unfortunately parents are still not permitted on site but we have engaged a company to professionally film the performance so that you don’t miss out. The video footage will be made available online via a private link that will be provided to SLPS families when the editing process has been completed. Students have been asked to wear their costumes to school in the morning and remain in them for the day. Thanks for your support and we hope that you will be able to celebrate many times by watching the video over and over again!

What's Been Happening at St Leonards

Frog News

Anybody else spend the first day of lockdown just hanging out with the family?

Our frogs spent the day sitting on their rock with the occasional dip in the water to keep cool.  Just before the lockdown was announced some of students were busy researching what type of frogs we have. We found a cool app from Frogwatch SA and discovered our frogs are Brown Tree Frogs, Litoria ewingi, the only tree frog naturally found in Adelaide and the Mt Lofty Ranges.

We think they are pretty cute.

School Dental

Children with poor oral health are more likely to experience pain, to miss days from school and to perform poorly in the classroom.

Untreated tooth decay can lead to problems with speaking, eating and learning.

SA Dental Service sees over 80,000 children for dental care each year, but data shows that 57.5% of eligible children in SA are not using the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule.

There are no out of pocket costs for children covered by the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule

School Signage

We are excited to announce that we are now offering signage on our school’s fence line in Glenelg North.

This is an opportunity for SLPS to partner with the community and help with promoting local businesses.

You can benefit by purchasing your space and gain invaluable exposure to families, passing motorists and locals as well as showing your support for our school community.

There is a limited number of signs so get in before they are all gone.

If you are interested or know of someone that might benefit from advertising to our local community please contact
