Last week the Department of Education wrote to some school communities, including Rozelle, with the strongest request yet, that students remain at home and engage in remote learning. The school is here to support all our families and is open to those who need it. We appreciate the parents who respond to the online booking form which helps us plan for essential staffing. The Department of Education has set very clear staffing expectations for school's to adhere too. Minimal staffing levels will remain in place for the duration of this lockdown period. This should not be interpreted as 'inadequate' staffing levels. Children who need to attend school, are well supervised by Rozelle staff.
Rozelle is a place where Aboriginal children learned, played and celebrated their culture for thousands of years on this beautiful, natural land. As we learn, play and celebrate together on this land, we honour the Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay our respects to elders both past, present and emerging.
Today we reached the six week mark of the Sydney wide lockdown. None of us anticipated at the beginning of the school holidays that we would be in this position. The news last week that we would continue remote learning until the end of August was difficult for everyone to hear. With a minimum of three weeks left, I have the deepest empathy for the entire Rozelle community - our students, our staff and our families. Just like our Rozelle families, our staff are living their own lockdown journey. We have staff who reside in LGA's which are under the strictest lockdown. We also have teachers who live on their own and are struggling with the isolation. We have colleagues with young families who are juggling remote teaching and supporting their own child's learning. We have staff who are carers to elderly parents. These are indeed challenging times for us all.
Since lockdown and the learning from home period commenced there have been many wonderful emails and messages sent to staff acknowledging their dedication, care and commitment. Thank you for those kind messages of encouragement. These messages have lifted teacher's spirits who, like so many of us are finding this lengthy lockdown a challenge.
CONGRATULATIONS 3 ALCOTT
A shout out to Miss Hansen and the students in 3 Alcott who were mentioned on Channel Ten's, Studio 10 this morning. The show featured an interview with their class namesake - Dylan Alcott. The presenters shared with him illustrations the students in 3 Alcott drew of Dylan. We are fortunate to have some footage of today's show.
