Term 3 | Week 1 | 13 July 2021

Principals Column

Welcome all families to Term 3

A great atmosphere was humming through the school this morning with the return of students happy to be back in their beautiful school environment with their friends ready and fresh to learn with big smiles all around, let’s go Scotts Head.

We are looking forward to our in-school NAIDOC week activities being run by our student leaders in peer groups on Wednesday afternoon. Students will experience traditional dancing, storytelling, traditional games, whole school art installation art and campfire building, terima kasih to Pak Adam for making this happen.

With changes being again implemented due to COVID restrictions thanks to all families commitment to follow protocols and mandatory guidelines being set by the Department of Education. Certain events will be cancelled, while some activities can go ahead with restrictions. At this stage students and teachers continue to work and learn on site and we will update our school community when recommendations are updated or change.

This is important information regarding COVID restrictions for all students and their families who attend Scotts Head Public school. As a Public school on the Mid North Coast we are currently in level two restrictions which we will all have to adhere to strictly to keep everyone safe within our school community. This will mean the following:

  • First and foremost, if students are unwell they should not attend school, even with mild symptoms.
  • Parents and Carers when dropping off and picking up students (if safe to do so) please stay in the car parked in a safe zone not on the pedestrian crossing.
  • Maintain physical distancing by avoiding gathering outside the school gates.
  • Remain outside of school grounds, but if essential to enter school grounds please follow mask wearing requirements and sign in using the Service NSW QR code when entering the school at the front office.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

COVID-19 and Our School

Below is information that has been taken directly from the Department of Education’s website and applies to our school. We have listed the main points that families need to know, this information was updated on 9 July 2021. The link to this information is: https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-families/schools-outside-of-greater-sydney1

All students are expected to be at school unless they have even the mildest of COVID-19 symptoms.

Under the current health orders, there is nothing to restrict students and staff who must attend school from moving between two areas with different levels of restrictions. Students and staff should reduce traveling to geographical areas with higher levels of COVID-19 restrictions in place.

A reminder for all families

Students should not attend school if unwell, even with mild symptoms of COVID-19. Any person with any COVID-19 symptoms should be sent home and should not return until they have received a negative test result and are symptom-free. In circumstances where children have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms a letter from their GP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test.

Anyone who is unwell with COVID-19 symptoms is strongly encouraged to get tested and self-isolate until a negative result is received. Find your local testing clinics.

Visitors

Non-essential visitors are not permitted in schools. Some visitors are permitted in schools based on the guidelines that follow.

Parents and carers must follow their school’s advice regarding changes to drop off and pick up including staying in the car when dropping off and picking up children if safe to do so.

Parents should:

  • maintain physical distancing by avoiding gathering outside of school gates
  • remain outside of school grounds (note some exceptions may apply regarding schools for specific purposes, vulnerable students or students with disability)
  • follow mask-wearing requirements and sign in using the Service NSW QR code when entering the school.

QR code sign-in process for all staff and visitors

The NSW Government have introduced mandatory QR codes across a range of additional settings, including schools.

Parents and carers permitted on school sites for specific purposes are required to check in using the QR codes available and check out once they leave the school site.

School Banking is back

School Banking is back.  School Banking Day will be Wednesday, commencing Week 2 (21 July 2021).

For each weekly deposit made at school, students will receive a Dollarmites token. Once they collect 10 tokens, they can redeem them for a School Banking reward.

If your child has previously participated in School Banking, or has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account, they can start banking straight away by bringing their Dollarmites deposit wallet to school on School Banking day.

If your child has lost their deposit wallet, please contact the office or visit any Commonwealth Bank branch for a replacement.

Our School Banking program is made possible because of volunteers. Thank you to Kate Shorter who has put up her hand to donate her time to run School Banking for our students.

If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2021 School Banking program parent guide from the school office or visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking

Congratulations Harry!

Congratulations to Harry who has been selected in the North Coast Primary Rugby Union team. Harry will join his teammates at the NSWPSSA Primary Rugby Championship in Mudgee from 17-19 August. Harry is an experienced rugby league player and is busy learning the intricacies of playing in the forwards in rugby union, particularly the rucks, mauls and lineouts.

We wish Harry great success as he represents the entire NSW North Coast region against some of the best young rugby players in the country.
