Rawlinson Primary School News

No. 26 - 2nd September 2021

PRINCIPAL'S NEWS

Dear Parents

I have returned to school after an operation on my knee to find the school running as smoothly as when I left.  It is an absolute credit to Mrs Large, Mr Ayres, Mrs Salmon, Mrs Johnson and Mrs Bartolomei  and all the staff at Rawlinson Primary and I want to thank them.  Their dedication, passion and desire to give every student at Rawlinson Primary the best education they possibly can is amazing.

I came back just in time for the School Athletics Carnival and what a day it was.  Mrs Large had to postpone the event due to rain, which was a clever move, and the rescheduled day was beautiful.  The sun was out, the wind was light and it was superbly organised, yet again, by Mr Pham.  It is one of my favourite days of the year, watching the students try their hardest, but accept the losses and support the winners.  Plus having all the parents sitting along the track, watching their children, getting excited and cheering them on.

How good was the Parent v Student race at the end of the day.  Having so many ex-students come back to watch brothers and sisters, talk to staff and to compete in the race, shows just how successful we are in creating the values that are so important for life.

This week is equally busy with the Science Fair on Tuesday, School Council and P&C Meetings on Wednesday night and the inaugural Parents Night on Thursday Night.  We are hoping for a big turn out and for you to enjoy the tremendous improvements that your children have made throughout the year.

There will be lots to see and do in every classroom so visit them all and don’t forget the Sausage Sizzle in the undercover area, where, for a gold coin donation, you can buy a sausage in bread and feed the family before you go home.

Cheers

Darryl Dedman

We have done fairly well this report, even though we have gone up by 3 overall.

I really thought the Year 4’s would get to zero but now the Pre-Primaries are doing really well.  I am hoping that next time, a year group or two will have no unexplained absences.  Please keep responding to your text messages and let us know why your child is away.

Remember it is very easy to reply to a text message when your child is sick and then it’s done and you don’t have to remember later.  In a more detailed analysis:

K         5 –  up to 8 students

P/P       5 – down to 4 students

Yr 1     8 –  to 8 students

Yr 2     8 -  to 8 students

Yr 3     12 – down to 7 students

Yr 4     2 – up to 4 students

Yr 5      7 – up to 8 students

Yr 6     10 – up to 16 students

Keep those explanations coming in!

Dear Parents/Guardians

As mentioned last week, The Education Department has advised schools to be prepared for a possible lockdown in the future.  Part of our preparation is determining the access that each family has to internet and internet enabled devices (such as laptops and ipads).

Thank you to those who have sent back the slip part of the note that each Family Representative (note taker) received last week.  This provides us with important information about your family's online situation and helps us plan for a potential lockdown.

If you haven't already done so, we would appreciate if the information slip can be sent back to school as soon as possible.  The note did ask for the slip to be sent back by Wednesday 1st September, however by the end of this week (Friday 3rd September) will still be great!

If you have misplaced the note, please inform the classroom teacher and we will send another one home.

Thank you

Mr Clinton Ayres

Deputy Principal

HEALTH TIPS

HEAD LICE

Head lice are tiny insect parasites that live on your head and feed on your scalp. Head lice are spread by head-to-head contact with another person who has head lice.  This kind of contact includes doing group work, playing, or hugging.

Tips for preventing head lice

·         Check your child’s hair regularly for head lice and eggs (‘nits’). Use a metal fine tooth ‘nit’ comb and plenty of hair conditioner applied to the dry hair, to make the task easier and more effective.  To help children sit still for this, offer distracting activities, e.g. play a favourite video, provide games, iPad apps, offer a head massage.

·         Tie long hair back. Braid long hair and/or put it up if possible.

·         Consider applying hair gel or mousse. These do not prevent or repel lice but may help to keep stray hair strands from contact with other heads.

·         Avoid sharing combs or brushes.

·         Remind your child to avoid head-to-head contact with other children, e.g. when working at the computer with others, or when playing, or hugging.

If your child has head lice please notify the teacher.  For more information:

·         Request the Head lice Fact Sheet available from the school

FUNDRAISING UPDATE

Book Fair / Book Week free dress parade Wow!  There were some amazing costumes at our parade, well done to everyone for having a go.

If you are lucky enough to be one of the prize winners, we will bring your prize to your classroom either today or tomorrow.

We will open the book fair one last time during the Parent evening, so if you haven't made it in, please come along then.

Cookie Dough fundraiser

Orders close 10pm WST, Friday 3rd September.  We will then be given the delivery date for our order.  It is expected to take approximately 14 days so it is likely we will take delivery on Friday 17th September, but we will confirm early next week.

There are already over 500 tubs ordered, so if you can spare some time to help sort and collect them, we would love your help. Thank you.

UNIFORM NEWS

If you have had a delay in your order my apologies, there has been sickness in my house.

UPCOMING DATES

Term 4 - October Uniform shop - cancelled.

As I am working full time in term 4 off site, the Uniform shop will not be open in term 4.  Uniform purchases can still be made via the Qkr! app or the paper order forms in the office.  Delivery days will be the same as term 3, Mondays or Thursdays only.  Rebecca Cavanaugh will be doing the deliveries for me  - Thanks Bec!

Kindy orientation Date TBA - we will need 7 volunteers.  New volunteers welcome!  As this is to support new families and kids in the school, other committee members will be running the opening, it's a good opportunity to get involved and meet other parents! Email rawlinson.uniforms@gmail.com if you are interested in helping.

Uniform Shop will be closed for the year on Friday 26th November 2021.  No Qkr! uniform orders or paper order forms will be accepted or processed after this date.

NAME SCHOOL UNIFORMS PLEASE

Please remember to name your children's uniform items, this will mean the items can be returned to your child, even from the lost property bin.  Any unnamed items at the end of each term come to the uniform shop to be sold on as a second hand item.

DONATIONS

I would like to ask for donations of any clean, good condition uniform items that you no longer need.  This helps us to supply good quality second hand uniforms for those who would prefer to buy second hand.  Also remember the office needs uniform items for those who may have accidents at school, this includes underwear, shorts skirts etc.  Please also wash and return these items to the office if your child has needed to use them.  These donations can all be put in the donation box by the canteen - or office specific donations or returns can go direct to them.

Kind regards,

Sue Giles

Volunteer Uniform Shop Coordinator
