We are excited for the return of our greatly anticipated Grandparents and Special Guest Day. Normally we have this celebration around Mother's Day/Family Week but this year we will celebrate on Friday 11th June . Parents, Grandparents and Special Guests will be invited to attend from 9:15 for a Prayer Service, school tour and Morning tea. The slightly later time of year will give the children the opportunity to showcase their work to their visitors. A form has been sent home for families to nominate their guests as we will still be required to meet COVID restrictions. Unfortunately we may need to put a limit on the number of guests able to attend from each family. It is always a very special day and we look forward to meeting 'new' grandparents and special guests and reconnecting with our frequent visitors.
A FORM HAS BEEN SENT HOME TO REGISTER GUESTS. IT IS VITAL THAT WE HAVE PRECISE NUMBERS IN ORDER TO PLAN EVENTS AND WORK WITHIN COVID RESTRICTIONS.
Every year, countless people turn Lent into a demonstration of faith, love and generosity. St Timothy’s is always a part of this incredible community, who believe that there are simple actions we can all take to “be more” for our world. This year we raised $175.50. Thank you everyone for contributing towards a more just and compassionate world during the Easter Season.
The Year Two students presented a Readers Theater based on their study of the book “Little Acorn”. This story links to our inquiRE topic “Be More” where we are exploring the life cycles of nature. Reader's Theater is a strategy for developing reading fluency. It involves the children in oral reading through reading parts in scripts that they have created after reading the text. In using this strategy, students do not need to memorize their part; they reread it several times, and present their story thus developing their fluency skills. The students made their own prompts and presented their story to the year Prep and One students.
Thank you from Anne-Maree Noonan
Each day over the term, the children can win points for their Colour team by participating in before school activity. The P-2 can skip and the Year 3 -6 can prepare for their Cross Country Event on the 25th May. Points will be awarded for before school activity. After Cross Country the 3-6 can choose top skip or run each day. All the Year 3-6 children who participate in the Cross Country will also win points for their colour. There is no EXTRA pressure for parents to drop children off 'earlier' but children can arrive anytime from 8:30 am to join in the fun. Sports uniform is not needed but children may bring runners for Cross Country if they desire.

The Siena College ASPIRE Program invites highly able primary years students to work with Siena students on STEAM based activities. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) education is an integrated curriculum designed to equip students with knowledge in these five disciplines as they gain invaluable experience solving problems in which there is not one right answer. In 2021, the ASPIRE Program will explore colour principles of both pigment and light, artistic symbolism, and sustainability and re-usability. Siena College students will work in groups with up to five Grade 3 or 4 primary students, exploring colour in science and art, building to what home means to each of them. Focusing on the phrase ‘home is where the heart is’ students will create a model house which portrays their own sense of self. When combined together as an installation, the houses will become a community, standing as one but filled with individuality and vibrant colour.
Our Year 3 and 4 children have been invited to attend on Thursday 27th May. Permissions forms will go home next week.
Thursday 24th June is our Pyjama Wellbeing day. Children are invited to wear Pyjamas and dressing gown ( if have one ..please DO NOT buy), bring their favourite bedtime friend, a pillow if you want, and a book to read and relax from 2:30-3:30 with friends. We ask for a gold coin donation for Melbourne's Homeless appeal. It will coincide with our Vinnies Winter Appeal where we ask children to donate non-perishable items, toiletries, clothing in good condition and special treats. This is usually sent on the last day of Term 2 to St Vinnies.

We invite all interested parents to join us at this meeting n the OPEN LEARNING SPACE to plan social and fundraising events. It is a great way to get to know the school community.
Thanks again to our local BAKERS DELIGHT Forest Hill who have gifted our Year 1 and 2 families, 2 free block loaves every week for a month! Our lucky families can use their gift cards to access this kind offer. St Timothy's also regularly receives money donations from Bakers Delight as a percentage of families purchases at this local bread shop. Why not 'pop in' to the store and see all the wonderful staples and treats that they offer.
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. NAPLAN is a nationwide measure through which parents, teachers, schools, education authorities, governments and the broader community can determine whether or not young Australians are developing the literacy and numeracy skills that provide the critical foundation for other learning and for their productive and rewarding participation in the community.
NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents to see how their child is progressing against national standards in literacy and numeracy and over time.
The tests provide an important contribution to monitoring and evaluating the performance of schools and school systems in these fundamental capabilities. They also provide schools, states and territories with information about how education approaches are working, the areas to be prioritised for improvement, and those schools requiring support in the teaching and learning of literacy and numeracy.
The results can assist teachers by providing additional information to support their professional judgement about students’ levels of literacy and numeracy attainment and progress.
NAPLAN tests are one aspect of each school’s assessment and reporting process, they do not replace the extensive, ongoing assessments made by teachers about each student’s performance. Your child’s teacher will have the best insight into your child’s educational progress.
NAPLAN results do not measure overall school quality.
The assessments are undertaken nationwide, every year, in the second full week in May.
NAPLAN is made up of tests in the four areas (or ‘domains’) of:
reading
writing
language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation)
numeracy.

NAPLAN WILL TAKE PLACE OVER THE NEXT TWO WEEKS AT ST TIMOTHY'S

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 21st successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
By facilitating NSS we aim to:
promote the value of reading and literacy,
promote the value and fun of books,
promote an Australian writer and publisher,
promote storytime activities in libraries and communities around the country,
and provide opportunities to involve parents, grandparents, the media and others to participate in and enjoy the occasion.
