Principal's Message

Welcome back to Term 4! Can you believe that we are nearing the end of 2021?

We have hit the ground running with the junior years off to swimming, Kindy Orientation days are happening and a SciTech Challenge. Congratulations to all the students who participated in this challenge...they won! How cleaver are our children! Thanks to Mr J for all your guidance and support with this.

……. and we have loads more exciting events coming up.

I had the best time travelling up through Karijini National Park to Broome, Exmouth and Coral Bay. We have such spectacular countryside and so fortunate to be able to travel. Thank you Mr J for taking the reins, from all accounts you did an amazing job.

Today is Mrs Reid’s last day at school. She will take some time to get ready before she becomes a mum very soon.  Mrs Reid is very much part of the CPS community and we wish her and her husband Dan all the very best as they join the parenthood family.

The years 6’s are off to Geraldton for a week at the Geraldton camp. We wish them all the best and hope they have an awesome time! Parents don’t worry, they are in fantastic hands! Take this time to enjoy a little bit of peace.

Very big thank you to the P & C for organising a lovely morning tea for World Teachers Day. The staff are most grateful for the support and value that our community has for what they do. It was such a lovely start to the day!

I am aware that the community has received some Stirling Council information about the land on the corner of Pearson and Cromarty. It is one of the council’s conditions of providing the land to the Department that all access points to the land are closed.  I am working with the Department of Education, Finance and surveyors on an appropriate solution to this and current Kiss and Drop area. It is expected to continue to be used as an area for school parking and address more appropriate solutions to the parking/traffic area. I will keep the board and community updated as I gain further information.

A friendly reminder that we have an Open School Board Meeting next Monday 25 October at 6.30pm in the library. There is also a P & C meeting on Tuesday 26 October at 7 pm in the library where there will be a discussion and voting on supporting the Oval Creative Play space.

We have a number of private external operators who lease our buildings and facilities; i.e. tennis, OSH, soccer, basketball. These are not owned or run by the school and are separate entities. If you have any queries about these please contact the operators who are the best to answer your questions.

Staff Spotlight - Mrs Joanna Morgan

Did you know.... That I ever since I was in Year 3, I wanted to be a teacher. I used to make all the kids in my class read to me, answer questions and then I would mark their work! I am not sure if the teacher thought I was a good help, but I sure thought I was. Being a teacher was all I ever wanted to be and now I am the Deputy Principal.

Did you know….. That Mrs Gerrans, who teaches in Year 5/6 is my sister. Before I came to Churchlands, she was a student teacher in Mrs Rigoli’s classroom and then we almost started working here at the same time. A few of the kids think we even look the same!

Did you know….. I have been working in schools for over 20 years. My very first-time teaching, I went to a little school in the wheatbelt town of Kalannie and spent 2 years living on a farm and teaching in the small school with only 60 kids. I have taught in lots of places including, London, Brisbane, South Hedland and now back in Perth.

Did you know….. One of my favourite places to holiday is Coral Bay. I went just recently and spent lots of time snorkelling with my family. This time we were lucky enough to see orca’s (killer whales) when we went on a boat tour, it was amazing!
